I use Rio Outbound Short for most of my streamer fishing... Two hauls and let it rip!

Great line for lake fishing. Terrible at mending though, so probably not the best for rivers.

Available in floating, intermediate, and sinking versions too... So you're covered, top to bottom.

On my river streamer setup, I'm running the Rio 15ft Intouch Sink tip line. Doesn't send it quite as well as the Outbound, but mends a TON better.

Well, the San Juan River lived up to it's legacy. Crazy small midges, Fought lots of big fish, even landed a few too :D Slickness of rocks was unexpected as well as all the fresh stockers (8" to 13" range) they had dumped in the day before we got there. I flipped my 2017 streak of all Browns to all Rainbows on this trip but fall is not good for their "colors" so in the end, I realized just 5 pics and only 3 had fish in them. No clue where I had them from but the cream midge, size 22 was very good to me.

Heading up to Baxter State Park first thing in the morning through Sunday for a final remote pond fishing trip for brook trout on FFO ponds. Season closes 9/30. Been hot AF here (80's) since Sunday, but a front is coming through late Wed/early Thu, ushering in much cooler weather (60's day & upper 30's/40's at night). Hoping that'll trigger some activity. Pics to follow.

I don't hike in very far, maybe 1/2 -3/4 of a mile. There is so much water to fish in Cheesman you can always find water. This year the guys in the canyon seem to be courteous and friendly so go figure..

The same shit everyone else has.
I use WF or DT floating line for streamers with a long leader. Granted the deepest water I fish is probably no more than 10 feet deep so that doesnt really help.

Best brookie from this past weekends trip -

And lastly.... Ive been thinkin about this for a while now. Alotta the streams I fish are small HQ or EV head water mountain streams. Some of them feed municipal reservoirs. They all have populations of either wild brook or wild brown trout or a combo of both. Most of the trout in the streams are small - brook trout being 6" and less and browns being 12" and less in size.

Now what I was wondering about.... In the streams that feed the reservoirs, do these cold clean reservoirs hold giant wild trout?

    Streams like this - http://www.coldwaterheritage.org/do...plans/north-fork-bens-creek-plan.pdf?sfvrsn=0

Does the stream size limit the trout size or are they solely limited by the amount of available food? If the stream and the reservoir both have the same amount of available food, will the trout grow larger in the reservoir because there is more water?

From what I understand yes both play a role in the max size any specis can grow to

It is all about the available food and feeding "season" as to Trout Growth. Also, Trout that have a source of High Protein food (like Scrimp or Scuds)- their flesh will turn orange and look/ taste like their cousin Salmon (all are part of the Char family)

Stream size, food, and population (which goes back to availability of food) all play a role in how big fish can get.

    Yep.

Does that mean the trout in the reservoir grow larger because there is more water even though they have the same amount of food??

It Does not, it has more to do with not having to endure a current (River, stream), expending that energy/ calories, in search of food. I can't count the times I have caught a Trout significantly bigger then I was expecting in a small lake/ stream. Muddy Creek is great explain of this in CO, very small, low flow river but in a farm/ ranch area with abundant food. There is a significant number of Large trout in that small disregarding by most stream.

Its been hot here on the East coast the past 2 weeks, I saw this front moving in and decided to call off work. Needless to say I'm glad I did, it was nothing short of spectacular and I was absolutely blown away with the quality and size of these wild giants. The morning started slow with no fish for the first three hours, as the day moved on, the clouds and a breeze moved in, temperature dropped and the next two hours this happened....

Jealous, Temp definitely had been a contributing factor west of the smokies (streak of 90+ Days...) ... I've ran into a lot of difficulty running into fish. Seems the bite is for 30 mins in the morning then they settle to the bottom till dusk to feed again.

I think I’m going to take my fly rod with me when I go hunting Saturday morning. Since I hunt/fish in the same property, I’ll come out of the woods and hit the creek for a few minutes before the UGA/Tennessee game at 3:30 :woot:
