Just a bunch of old crap
Those are the old ones, though. You want the new one, trust me. That thing is connected to me every time I go into the backcountry now. If you have any questions about it, let me know.

I have the old one, yellow model, and it worked awesome for a month long jaunt along the continental divide with my mtb. Had 10 minute tracking intervals so wife could check my progress and sync with Bluetooth to send text messages from it. Battery never drained before I had a chance to charge, would highly recommend.

No I meant that I could go without charging between towns and it was never drained. On average I would still be over 50% after using it a week. I usually powered it off at night and I put it in the extended tracking mode which disables most other features while tracking. Keeps it from sending out multiple pings if you're stationary too.

so its safe to say each 10 minute tracking interval is a location ping? trying to see which subscription would work well with me.

Feeling too lazy to read... help me out. I did look at the fees page.

Is there an option to just have it on as needed? Say turn service on for January and February, off March-June, on July, off August etc?

Yea, it's a $20 charge per year to have that plan, then you just pay for the months you need. Make sure you set it up to cancel when you start the service for whatever month you're using it, they autobill

Yes, it shows up on your map on the inreach page. When you register your device and all you'll also set up your page so you can share your map. I would usually preset messages to send out which has your location attached to them. For instance, one when we started riding each morning, one for when we stopped, and a couple others that were basically "checking-in" messages.

From what the PDF says, to enroll in the freedom plan, it is $24.95, but yeah, $5 more.

It mightve gone up. When I got my unit last year it was before Garmin acquired the company.

Edit: You're right, just double checked my invoice from May when it auto-renewed and it was $25
