Why do you figure it's going to need a transmission in 100k?

I hate to say it, but the truck rode amazing and it shifted great.

I'm just impulsive and have wanted a V6 4x4 since my 2004 Prerunner

High mileage doesn't scare me, the lots of towing does. And you said there were signs this truck was not maintained. I'm wondering what that trans fluid looks like.

I normally would, but I pay 325 a month for my truck now, and normally I can afford to pay for all repairs when I need to. I've never used an extended warranty.

That approach would work, but I'm not 100% sure I'd get approved for the loan. I just got this truck last November haha

Heavy towing in this truck I think will wear it out much faster. These things really arent built for serious towing.

I never trust how the previous owner cared for their stuff. If he wasnt perfect with trans and engine care this truck coukd be a nightmare.

Never get impulsive over a vehicle. There is always another one.

The price is a red flag too.

All my vehicles have been an impulse buy, and only one bit me in the ass. The way I see it, I'd be shocked if he was harder on it than I am on mine. I drive the piss out of my vehicles. The price does bother me, but it could be a mistake on their end

I just really don't like the 2.7 anymore and how boring my truck is.

    here's my take:

104k on a 3 yr old truck assuming they bought it in 2014 is a TON

Smoker's car- it's a turn off, but when I worked in service, we had these "bombs" you'd let off in a closed car- on top of a towel on the center console, then after a while, turn on the recirc and let it go through the vents. It was like Fabreze for a car with a citrus smell that would eventually disappear. As a non-smoker, I can tell you they work VERY well.

Burn hole- there are people out there that can "fill" the hole and it looks great- we used people like that on the used cars we sold (along with the "bomb") when we got a smoker's car from auction or trade in. Or simply get covers and move on. The seat material sucks anyhow. Very weak and thin- tons of threads on it.

Price: I'm not looking around so IDK if it's a good deal. I'd always try to negotiate more- especially if they already don't know what they've got and want out from under it. I'd try to get an independent shop's word on the condition- check the diff fluids- check it out from underneath when in the air, etc. Especially if it looks like it may have been rode hard.

Probably not much help to you... sorry.

I'd buy it OP, it does sound like hwy miles which is better than stop and go. As long as maintenance was kept up to date and you drove it. Its a Toyota it can handle the abuse, with the proper maintenance. If you can do all the maintenance going forward then if possible get a third party warranty for major expenses.

It was serviced but not meticulously. It's been beaten on for sure.

I think it's been rear ended. The TRD stickers are gone, and the chrome "Toyota", "SR5", and "V6" emblems are gone. The "Tacoma" emblem is stuck on too high.

I didn't see any damage underneath, and the carfax is clean. I'm under the impression that they debadged it.

I'm debating on whether or not I want to cruise back down there and literally check everything over. Does the trans have a dip stick? Also, can I check the transfer case fluid without taking out the full plug? No tools here...

I'm still skeptical. If they only debadged it, the "Tacoma" emblem should still be in the right place. I'm no carfax expert, but unless it was totaled and reconstructed, it might not show up on carfax.
