Mine are 265/70/17 same as your 265/75/16's. No difference. Hoping they look smaller to the guy compared to my 285's

Ah I thought you had a set of 245/75/16s or something laying around. Yeah I need to measure, but I think I'm currently 3.75" above stock, so I'd have to get some 225/75/16s or something

+/- 2" is for 2wd vehicles........if it's a 4wd there is a formula based on wheel base length and track width

That's only if you get caught. I have 'off road' lights wired into my high beams and have never been bothered. I just shut them off for inspection. They just can't be your primary source of lighting.
Legally, they already don't. If it doesn't have a DOT stamp, it shouldn't used on the road. No retrofit job is ever going to carry a DOT stamp. You can put retros in DOT housings, but the assembly is 'technically' illegal.
I don't know how they could look up specs. I haven't seen that information published anywhere. When I had my 2007 Tacoma, it was lifted with Eibach coils, so about 1.5", but was pretty much dead level with my wife's uncle's 2008 bone stock Tacoma. Both were double cab 4wd models. With many vehicles, there are so many engine options and configurations, I don't see how they could possibly check it without doing a LOT of research.

I've been wondering about looking up the heights as well. The vin# should tell them all they need to know about the model, but suspension settles over time, TSB leaves, different tire sizes from factory would all mess up a "standard" height. Not sure how they will do that...

I bought the kit. I don't think it's as difficult or offensive smelling as some people make it out to be.

The new inspection stuff really sounds like it's designed to keep honest people honest. I'm not sure that even with the camera stuff they have the resources to monitor it properly, store enough data, and keep the system functioning enough. My guess is we keep seeing the same amount of modified stuff zooming around.

I heard from a friend that in 2017 they had 6 shops that at one point in time didn't even know the correct location. So yeah I doubt they will be able to truly monitor it fully

Why would you need smaller tires for inspection?
