not offered for the two I'm considering.

Goodyear Duratrac (which I currently have and love in a 265 70 17)
    or Goodyear MTR

If the rain handling wasn't such shit on muds I'd get the Cooper STT Pro but ya. Also rather avoid E rated

That’s one issue with the 255’s. They are not as common and they are pricey. I paid 1600 for 255’s and now with the 315’s I paid $1800. When you figure there is so much more tire and what not. Plus you have soooo many more options in the 315’s. Also the 255’s are hard to get (usually take longer to get or find stock).

Now, Offroad and on road performance may counteract all that. They are fantastic. If i didn’t need a regear because of my weight issue I would have gone with them again. Great Offroad and in snow. The stt max have great traction even for a a/t. With 80k on them they are starting to show their age but still have been pretty happy with them.

Also the mtr’s @Joe23 are fucking scary on winter roads of your running them all year. Plus mine wore and balanced like shit. Again they are a mud terrain and have there place but don’t recommend for all year driving.

I was looking at the mud terrain ones STT PRO

    But now that I check they aren't offered in a 33" as a 255, only 285 E rated.
And at that point I'd just likely stick to the duratracs. I'd really rather avoid the E rated tires. and the MTR and Duratrac is a D rated 8 ply. So a little lighter.

I keep hearing different things for the 285s though. Some say you need regear some say you don't. Sounds like it comes down to personal preference so I'm curious to see how it is.
My biggest concern is the shifting.

Oh your on 17s, smart move. I made a mistake and bought 16" wheels and now im stuck with it and 16" tire sizes suck for the most part because everything goes to e rated.
Duratracs are good because crappy tire always has them for %25 off which are nice.

Check this deal i saw by my local ctire. I had km2s and I thought they were great.

the KM2 isn't bad but not fond of its rain traction. I would never buy the KO2s again as I really hated them lol.

Got my duratracs from Ctire as well and love these tires. They've been great so far. Just want a bigger size next year, and at 17s, not much is available for a 255.
Just curious if its as bad as some say going with a 285 on the 3rd gen.

For sure man. I honestly don't plan on regearing anytime soon, now that I've been driving with them for a while.

Stick with what you like than! 285 is a nice looking tire. Big enough for most anything and shouldn't need a regear, although cab mount chop is probably a forsure

My 285's are E rated ko2's. I love them. You'll notice a minor difference in acceleration. The ride is a tiny bit stiffer, which I actually wanted because I found the stock offroad ride to soft. As for shifting, I personally don't find it bad. But I never had issues with shifting from the start. I also don't drive on the highway much or have traffic to deal with. As for fuel mileage, I get anywhere from 10-13.5L/100km depending on where I'm driving and how I'm driving.

If you think you have problems with shifting now, 285's won't make it better. Just saying.

What did you hate about the ko2's? How are the duratracs better? I have the e rated 265 70 17's and have no issues with them. They seem to have the best reviews regarding performance and wear.

@tacoma16 Are you going to have your SCS wheels on when we do this run in a few weeks? I keep seeing pics of F5's and its driving me crazy. I need to test fit one soon to put my mind at ease to whether or not I can even run them with my set-up :D

If I can, I may even try selling my current tire+wheel combo early and make the upgrade to 35s like now
