It's tough to say for sure. How tall is your antenna?

If I told you one spot was better than the other, I'd be guessing. Either way, none of the mounts on our truck are ideal short of a whip right on the roof, as that's the best ground plane. All I can say is make sure there's a good ground, and see how it does.

I have a firestick 5' mounted in the back with a shmellfab mount and the swr is really great there. No need to adda ground wire. I red somewhere that you need at least 1/3 of the lenght of the antenna above the roof line to have a descent signal, better 1/2 and best the higher possible and then tune it

This is exactly what I heard too! Except I have a 4ft.

Randy should have gone with this setup in the beginning

I pretty much did, just a different mount. Then when it was up front, it should have had a good ground as well since the bumper is tied into the frame. I wonder if my radio itself is fucked up. If it's STILL acting up with the new antenna, that'll confirm it and I'm getting a new radio.

Yeah that’ll be the first thing I try. I get decent signal but want even better because I’ll mainly be using it in the mountains.

Might be drilling into the roof if that doesn’t work.

I have somewhere between 1/2 to 1/3 above the roof because it’s mounted to my bed rack about half way up the cab.

Maybe the pc on the bumper interfere with the quality of the ground?:notsure:
    Ok so as EST said,
    Probably a ground issue

for my cb i alternate between my 3' and 5' depending on what setup i am running. Having it tuned makes a bigger difference then the length of antennae above cab from my experience using both.

Yesss! Sub'd for holes in roofs.
Maybe, but I doubt it. I made sure to grind off all the PC that would interfere.

    Too many to list.
Taking advantage of my late start at the office and getting a few things done.. including my shiny new TW decal and a lube. Now off to hunt breakfast.
