I've got a handheld scanner that I ran a magnetic mount antenna on my car on the trunk. It's too tall to mount on the cab (I have to park in a garage for work). How do people mount antenna's in the bed? I had a gound plane (magnetic mount) antenna in my car on the trunk, but I have a standalone antenna from my house that I'd like to mount in the bed. It's about 3-4 feet long and I'm sure I can mod the tie down brackets to use it, but I'd like to see how others have done it!

    Thanks,
    Ted

I think people usually put it in the bed, close to the cab. Where in MA are you from?

Search for "Firestik NGP" on Google. I have one in my bed that you can see in my build (click link in my sig). Or another option is to get a folding adaptor for your antenna.

but i moved and cant cut a hole in the wall (apartment) to feed it through...I though I could mount it in the bed somehow. It usually mounts to a post (1 1/4 in PVC worked for me). I'm going to try to make something up to keep the bottom of the antenna in the bed so it doesnt' stick up too much and see what kind of reception I get. It's low band through 800MHz though I usually just listen to local PD on the 400mhz range.

I have no idea what you're talking about here.

one for the car (car now gone) and one for home. I can now use neither. I'm hoping I can hook up the big antenna on the truck (the one that used to be on the house). The magnetic one sticks up too far. It was on my trunk and was ok, but on the cab of the tacoma it won't fit in the garage at work. The tall antenna doesn't need the metal (ground plane) that the magnetic one did, so I think I can mount it low in the bed, I just need to figure out how to secure it. I'm thinking of using one of the rail tie downs and modding it to take a pvc pipe down to bed level and bolt the antenna there. I could use some pics of CB antennas bed mounted, because that's most likely what I'm going to emulate.
