What is the difference between the Bug Deflector and the Bug Deflector II?? I got the regular Bug Deflector, but I can see no difference between either!

I believe the Deflector II is higher profile. How was the install and fitment? Do you have confidence that it won't rub?

Also, on a sidenote, what would be the correct name for the little, white retaining clips that AVS (and other brands) use to mount the deflectors? I am in need of some new ones. They are the white, nylon square pieces that allow a screw to thread-in and spread the spades apart, ensuring a tight fit. Anyone know if Autozone, O'Reillys sells them?

Yes.... had been on since Memorial Day weekend 2017. No issues, doesn’t rub, I wash and wax etc under it also. If you install as per the instructions you will not have any issues.

Anyone have the EGR bug shield. Looks the best but want to know how installs and if it Has any of the same problems that some of these other bug deflectors have

Personally, I can think of some solutions For the issues presented here.

    1) would be to have a design that replaces the stock weather stripping with thinner seals to allow more clearance for the deflector and prevent it from bending up towards the metal.

    2) have a design that uses thin metal brackets or longer mounting area that pushes the deflector up and away from the hood to prevent any contact with painted edge or top of the hood

    3) have the deflector include a soft non abrasive insulator like thin foam that is attached to the inside edge of the deflector. This way there is a cushion between the deflector and your paint without adhering anything to the hood itself.

    4) any combination of the above ideas

I just installed one of these yesterday. Seems very tight where it curves around from under the hood. I am worried about it chafing the leading edge of the hood. Anyone had trouble with that so far?

i installed one of these today and the drivers side near the edge of the grille has a nice little mark in it now. I re-adjusted but i think it doesn't make a difference. it looks good and should keep the bug of the glass. plastic doesn't rust so i don't really care abt a tiny nick. I am going to send it.

I never thought I would like these but when my Tacoma arrived it already had one on it and I really liked the way it looks, especially with my Pro grille and ARB bumper. Good thing is when the dealership installed the item they never updated their system so it was free. Same goes for the tube steps.

I know this thread is very old, but I just put the AVS Bugflector II on my 22 and ended up taking it off and returning it. No matter how I adjusted it it was making contact with my passenger side headlight housing and the grille surround. I don't know if it was warped or my hood is a little uneven but I now have a couple chips in my headlight housing and grille surround.

Although I love the bug deflectors and have had them on all my previous Toyotas, I had to give up on this one. Wasn't worth any further damage to me.

I'd say if you have one and are wondering if it is making contact, see if you can slide a piece of paper under it with the hood closed. I could on the driver side but never was able to on the passenger side. That's how I knew it was just resting on my headlight even with the hood bump stops as far out as they could go.
