Definitely man, go for it, call your local dealer and make an appt. make sure whoevers name the truck is in is with you or able to come if it fails otherwise you're stuck! i got almost 13 grand out of mine, so definitely a good deal, definitely worth takin yours in. Even if you can't see rust, they rust from the inside out, mine had some rust but I figured itd pass so I was surprised myself

Well you may not be able to see it, I didn't have anything on the outside that looked like it would fail. There was quite a bit of rust, but nothing you wouldn't think would be under a 10 year old truck. Couldn't hurt to get her checked

Guys, Im in Connecticut ,so we were on the frontline to the frame issues.
I was told I was the first taco in the state to get the new frame.(01 xtra cab v6 5 spd 4x4] in Nov.08. What I got was ; new frame, lower control arms, rear leafs, parking brake cable and assembly, front and rear brake lines, new brake and steering fluid, new freon,ac lines [broke during process] all necc. mounting kits.
Great job done, truck looks and rides as new. The things I didnt like were; a lot of old bolts were used during rebuild esp. if it was a part they were not replacing, I had to fight them to repair the a/c after they broke it!, a few new rattles/creaks inside the cab now [small price to pay tho].
I had a revtek puck lift, and they wouldnt reinstall it [makes sense I guess].
Interestingly, the new frame had a sticker on it, made by Dana Mfg.[the axle Co] here in the U.S........

Absolutely man, I can't wait to get started on it :D

That's true man, I wondered if it had been anywhere besides AZ. Who knows, you still got some time though :).

Oh wow, that's pretty good! You need to get that word out there for all the 01-04 people :)

Nope, no worries man, I'm sure you'll be good to go until the 15 years is up :D

I met another taco owner at the lumber yard about six months ago,[ he was checking out my truck when I came out] and he said he was sending his truck in the next day,for some kinda rust preventive paint treatment, which he was told was all his truck needed.
Sounded a little bogus to me,either the frame is good and protected from new, or not, I felt they might be trying to cover up potential problems later on, so Im not sure if that is the new deal.
I know they wouldnt buy back 01-04's because the truck's value was too high.
The service manager I dealt with was real cool, and explained to me that they would have to give me a check for $13,500, and they were getting about $8,000 from Toyota for the job.So they saved a couple grand, maybe.[Not forgetting the fact that they really didnt have to do anything, all warrantys were well expired, but I'm def. a customer for life because of this] He said it was saving their jobs too, they were so quiet at the time they were talking layoffs.
I wouldnt have taken the 13.5 anyway, I wanted to keep my truck...

Brake lines will be replaced but with Toyota brake lines. They have kits that match your VIN.

Glad I looked up this site! I have an '04, now i'm becoming concerned about the frame. Bought the truck in Colorado, been driving it in Utah for 2 years. Both of those states salt the crap outta the roads. Just recently noticed one of my 4-wheelers got rusted bad this winter from pulling it on the highway in salt spray.

Originally I was mostly concerned about my auto tranny shift points, but now I realize there is more going on with this model/year.

I love this truck but, Thanks for bringing this to my attention!:D

My weak spot was on the pass. side, right on the inside and behind the rear leaf spring perch, the front one. He went straight for the spot too, hitting it with the round head of a ball-peen hammer. He hit it three times, in spots a couple of inches apart, and the third shot, the ball stuck right thru the frame! I think thats a common spot, maybe the metal is naturally thin there..

Mine was on pass side as well, a little in front of where you said was where he put the hole, but he said it was weak in other places on back, he didn't even check the driver's rail because it had already failed. It's pretty crazy for sure! But definitely great customer service from toyota :)

Ok, now you are getting me worried. Mine has lived in AL its whole owned life so don't have to worry too much about the salting, but should I still get mine checked? It's an '02.

You should be good to go, but nothin wrong with gettin it checked when you get the chance, and if it does happen to fail, it'll be great to have a brand new frame :)

Very nice man! You got a great deal :D nice lookin truck! When did yours fail? How bad was it? Toyota really took care of us!

You were just ahead of me then, mine failed last friday! that''s awful man! not much you can do about it though, and it did pay off :D. I replaced timing belt and stuff last year in mine but at least I got a year out of it, was gonna have to do some other maintenance if it passed that doesnt need done now. I've already fell in love with the new rig :)
