Thinking about doing this on my sr5 should I do just the cat back or up to the manifold?

The TRDUSA website advertises 5 to 8 HP gain for the gen 2 cat back while simply stating an increase in HP for the gen 3 but I expect the gains to be similiar. It is not much but it is something. My truck felt a little more responsive with the TRD Pro cat back but I felt a much greater difference with the URD y-pipe which removes the rear cats. Hope this helps.

Please post a video of the exhaust sound, up close to the exhaust tip and away from the vehicle a bit.

A more throaty exhaust would indeed be appreciated in these trucks, especially to cover the clickity-clack of the engine!

I really wanted this when I bought the truck and did assume it included the y pipe. It does seem like a lot for a muffler, depending on what the original was.

On a previous car, I did get an OEM cat back that eliminated the resonator with a straight pipe and used a nicer muffler. That was worthwhile and was probably about the same cost in today's money? On the car, the resonator and muffler were straight through, absorption-type to start with, but the exhaust did help the turbo spool faster with just a bit more sound.

For what the TRD exhaust is, the stock muffler is hopefully a baffle type. I would have really jumped on it if it changed the outlet to in front of the wheel. Although, that would probably suck off road.

You should be able to determine if the stocker is absorption or not by shining a light down there or used a coat hangar / wire snake to see if it hits anything.

they have some good stuff. i just installed their short shifter for the MT yesterday. and it's great! i personally wouldn't mess with any of the Y or U pipe setups until we have a proper tune file for that config. OV may be doing some tunes for that in the future. if you want to check about that you can find @dYL0n in the OV alpha thread in this forum. he's got the OV tune as well, but he started off with the U pipe setup but i believe he had to go back to stock since the tune isn't developed for that yet.

Compared to the Taco 5spd and other trucks, the 6spd throws are short, but I am a sucker for even shorter throws. URD's price is right for that also.

Thanks for comments and recommendation. I am in no rush for the exhaust mods.

    Sweet build. I like it.

My Sport came with the four season mats. I was worried that I wouldn't like them since I drive barefoot a lot. There actually stellar and don't interfere at all.

the throws are pretty short but not weirdly so. the one thing that jumps out is how firm the new shifter is, which i like. i run a super heavy shift knob, so those two go together perfect. just FYI for the future if you were gonna consider it.

Thanks! I don't mind firm shifts. It'll go with the firm pedals. Took the Wife's Forester out the other day and was launching all over the place with the feather light gas pedal.

As is, I like the stock knob, but I did read that the leather tends to come off over time.

I have had the PRO exhaust and intake on my sport for a year. Totally happy with the purchase. I like the sound and I know the nay sayers will cry horse crap, but I feel a little more pep off the line out of the truck.

I've got the TRD exhaust, I love the sound. Just wish the tip was a circle instead of an oval, but overall very happy with it. I didn't feel any noticeable increase in power.

TRD exhaust is perfect for these trucks, very well tuned. I initially installed a magnaflow but the resonance inside the cab was awful. So glad I removed that.

No issues. One file he sent drove really bad and a some guy on the forum assumed it was the exhaust. Matt knew the problem
Immediately and fixed it shortly after. Wasn’t exhaust related

I might have to pick up the URD short shifter. I was hoping TRD would come out with one like they have for the 2nd gen (I think the stick is slightly shorter as well as being a shortened throw, but I may be wrong on that.). I'm getting impatient though.

Back on topic, I have the TRD exhaust, but got it with the truck, so I can't offer a before and after comparison. I will say that I love it; it sounds and looks great.

It’s just a little loud. A lot of people say “it’s stock during normal driving then gets loud when you get on it”

    To me, it’s loud always.

But I installed it and immediately noticed a difference.

Still thinking about going back stokc, just because I don’t want to hear it.
