5100 question

i currently have 885 springs in the front with ome shocks in the front. i want to put some 5100s in the 885 but i dont want to do it unless im going to stay level like i currently am.

 

If you have the 5100's at 0", the height will be the exact same.

why would you switch for OME to 5100's? OME has a better ride quality and the 885's are made for the OME shocks, unless you meant OEM.. lol

 

word. why change shocks. OME shocks are valved to work with their springs. with the 5100's you'll prob lose ride quality

 

my shocks are rusted pretty bad. i didnt realize the bilsteins were worse ride quality. but are they a bad shock because they seem fine in the rear. i would like to match the shocks, and ive haeard more things about bilsteins compared to ome. i just want to try something new.

 

lets get this straight... your old man emu shocks are rusty? if so just hit them with some paint man!

 

i tryed sanding the rust off already. not much luck with that so painting them wouldnt do much....

 

hmm i would keep sanding! imo the ome shocks are better than the 5100's. I sanded mine and hit them with some VHT epoxy paint in the rattle can. it's made for shocks and suspension parts and is suppose to be rust and salt resistant. i got it at advance auto parts.

 

the 5100's are by no means a bad shock. right now you have OME shocks and OME springs which are designed to work together so you will notice a change in ride quality with the 5100's. your money, your choice

 

i dont want to ride your thread here but i have a 5100 question and there are prob a million threads already. i searched for this and have had no luck. I am getting the TSB leafs done on my 08 TRD sport DC and am getting the 5100 to set at 1.75" to level it out. my question is

should i get all 4 5100's and do the rears as well since i am doing the front or are the rear yellow/blue billies OK to just leave, I would only be saving about 100 bucks and I'd install myself.

also i hear an alignment is part of the TSB? so i should do the 5100's in the ffront 1st right?

I would keep the OMEs if it was me. They are great shocks. As for the other Q. I would get all new, but you done have to at all. Yes, they come with an alignment. I would install the fronts first and see what they say. Might not say anything. Depends on the dealer.

 

The rear 5100's are great... better than the original yellows... and inexpensive!

Here is a photo of my previous Tacoma ('05) after I installed Ride Rite air bags because of the soft rear suspension (didn't know about the TSB) and 5100s...

 

i just got a call fron Toyota about my TSB for the rear leafs, they are ordering the parts today. they say that since it IS a TRD (i have a TRD DC SPORT) they will do the Leaf and the front and rear shocks.... i thought that they only did the leafs on TRD's but everythin on the non trds. i asked him if i could buy the 5100's and they install them and he said no, i wonder if i have them with me when i drop off the truck and grease the service guy $50 if he'll do it?

 

hes prolly reading the bulletin wrong...you should only get rear springs and an alignment...
