Bilstein 6112 next to Bilstein 5100

idk i had 5100's on my jeep and had 2 marks on my garage floor underneath both rear shocks. thats not normal eventually there would be nothing left to leak out. this was with 15k on them.

 

Anyone know the length of the uncompressed factory 6112 spring? 13" or 14"? I'm trying to sell my 650 lb front coils from my Icon setup and they are 13" long. I'd assume the 6112's are the same 13"?

 

So, 5100's in the front and 6112's in the rear??? Kinda confused, thanks...

 

6112s are the front shocks. in the rears some people go either 5100 or 5160, i have 6112 in front and 5160 in the rear

 

So I guess what I'm asking is, should I be worrying about leakage with the 6112's or just buy Fox 2.0? Thanks for any help.

Why can't you just buy the 6112's by themselves without the coils and use OME coils?

 

I've read quite a few posts of Bilsteins leaking. Is this more a rare thing, because I want to upgrade my suspension asap?

 

No leaking issues with mine (after 1 year )

i had 5100's leak on my jeep. my dad has 5100's on his ram for a few yrs now no leaking. 6112 are a diff body though i have not heard about them leaking .

 

i have 6112s and read somewhere that the coils on the 6112 are bigger than say the ome 887 or 888. eibach makes a spring that fits which is rated at a heavier weight i think it was 700 lbs?

Because of the larger shock body shouldn't be much ill affect lifting by compressing the 600 lb spring. mines set at 6 on the driver side and 5 on the passenger side still rides better than my stock hitachis

 

This has been gone over many times. They come with their own 600lb coil. No way to order them without coils. They are a package. The coils they come with seem to be holding weight pretty well for me. I just measured my hub to fender gap the other day, 21.5 driver and 21.75 passenger. This is after 7 months and at least 15,000 km with an all-pro apex steel bumper (about 100 lbs extra) on an access cab 4x4. Clip position 3. Before the lift I was at 19.5" even both sides with this bumper.
You can however switch to a higher rate coil from another manufacturer, King/Fox/Eibach etc. I believe you want a 3" I.D. coil 14" length.

 

5100s are built with a weeping seal ,a small amount of leakage is normal .

 

when it drips down the shaft and onto the floor is not normal. at some point it will have nothing left to leak. weeping and dripping are 2 diff things a little dampness around the seal maybe but not dripping on the floor.

 

Mine are leaking like hell. Ride quality has deteriorated and working with the company I bought them from to work on warranty issues. Mine are set on top notch to clear 295/65/18 with minimal rub. Prior to leaking they were great on and off road

 

5100s or 6112s?
