To me you choose cab configuration then box size. I DIDN'T want a dbl cab and it came with the long bed so everything worked for me. If I wanted a dbl cab then and only then would I have a dilemma.

Now last week I bought a mountain bike after years without. My longbed fits it PERFECTLY with the right amount of squish to hold everything snug. If I had a short box I couldn't even have the bike in the bed unless it was on an angle or on a rack. Now I do have trailers as others suggested but who wants to be out and about see a deal and have to run home for a trailer?

Lots of good criteria listed in this thread. Make your list of demands and then balance your needs vs some of the comments here. After all some people need a trunk without carpet in it and end up buying a truck.

    I'll buy a 4Runner before I'd buy another shortbed.

Jesus, we should rename this thread "Why I love my long bed and why it's far superior to yours"

BTW, contrary to opinions expressed elsewhere in this thread, I actually use the box on my truck and so far it has hauled anything I've thrown at it. I even cut a couple 2x6's to make a level platform for hauling 8' stuff, which still doesn't fit in a long bed. Plus it's more maneuverable around town and off-road.

I am one of the few guys who owned both. I use to own short bed and now I have long bed. To be honest there isn't much difference in daily driving(it is just one feet longer). The only notable difference was on trail where you had to make sharp turns (turning radius is little bigger than SB), but long bed does handles better in sand dunes in my opinion. I love the extra space since I can fit all of the camping gear in the bed and close the tonneau cover.

Just got my DCLB this month. Already used every inch of the bed lol. It is a really long truck in parking lots though... IMG_8170.jpg

I required a long bed for sleeping in the bed, and did not want a double cab. I got the ideal truck for me!

My brother has a Sport that is identical to that one, quicksand DCLB. His is a 2wd, he lives in Atlanta and doesn't off-road on anything gnarly, an occasional dirt road is about as rough as it gets for him. He drove it from Atlanta to western Montana just a couple of weeks ago, filled the back with stuff from our deceased parent's home (which we cleaned out and are now selling), and headed back to GA. He was damned glad to have a long bed.

These trucks are a little long, but they are still easier to handle in traffic and parking lots than a full-size, no comparison really.

The 6 foot bed combined with a bed extender essentially gives you an 8 foot bed.

long bed for sure. So much room to haul stuff. My dirt bike can be in with gate closed or open. Plus if you get an access cab you get a little bit more for towing IMG_0031.jpg

I'm one of the fewer guys that has both, LB has been much more versatile but the SB is fun to scoot around in.... just don't expect it to haul very much.20160416_091053.jpg 20160416_091044.jpg

If they made that config with a manual trans I would have went that route.

I'm clearly a much bigger man.
I had to compensate with a little teeny short bed.

Also, I had to have the (extremely manly) M/T.
Plus I now have an excuse to NOT help you move your sofa (sorry about that).
And I like to do U-turns sometimes.
Oh...I also had to have DC with 3 kids, and the DCLB looks weird to me, like the Stretch Armstrong of trucks. I'm more of a GI Joe kinda guy.

Also, if I wanted a man truck with a manly M/T and a man-sized long bed to go about in doing manly stuff, I'd have gone with the Dodge Ram 2500 with the diesel engine and M/T.

But instead, I went for this badass girl truck, and I just couldn't possibly be happier.

When we were shopping for the truck my wife saw the DCSB and said, "That looks like a truck for someone who doesn't actually use it". The SB will handle the trails a bit better, but I haven't run into many obstacles that stopped me due to the LB. High centering is a little easier to do tho.....

I needed the DC cause I got a 10 month old. Don't do a lot of hauling of big stuff so went with the short bed
