Changing a bumper ...

I backed into one of them stell poles in a parking lot and put a fist size dent in the rear bumper of my "13" sport and would like to know how hard it is to replace the bumper with a new from Toyota ,none of the plastic on top is damaged so I'm assuming it'll come right off and install it on the new one , What would a guess be on time it would take to swap it out and what would cost be , do the come pre-painted or does that have to be done too...

Depending on where the damage is, you might just be able to hammer it back out from the inside of the bumper.

 

Just rock the dent... chicks dig dents and scars.

 

I thought about just taking it off the truck and dropping it off at a body shop but it might be even more then a new one

 

LOL , dents might be cool by you but not in jersey..

 

Yours is a sport so its color matched, but if that doesnt matter to you, you can likely find a chrome used one on craigslist and replace it yourself for 50-100 bucks. The color matched ones are harder to find but someone on here might have one that they can help you out with

 

Thanks , yeah I looked on ebay and found a stock unpainted bumper for $360 with paint that brings it to the $500 range I guess..

 

It's 6 bolts. You and a buddy can do it in 1/2hr.

 

Yeah, Texas and Arizona are a little different. You could always upgrade to steel, no more dents... ever...

Bumpers are steel , and don't kid yourself steel dents.

 

I have to believe you can find cheaper than $360 unpainted. They are out there.

Rear bumper comes off pretty easy. The bolts aren't hard to get to with a ratchet but access is too hard for an impact gun to make it really easy. You can bang dents out with a big ass hammer and a 2x4 to the point of close enough. But the paint and undercoat will crack and peel when the metal bends and rust will follow.

 

Apparently neither is punctuation.

 

I'm pretty sure he meant a steel plate bumper. Those are pretty hard to dent and if you hit something hard enough to dent it you probably totaled your truck anyway.
