Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

Did the AC fix today, pretty simple

 

Good Day!!! Just want to share also my mod about this minor issue and thanks to the members made this happen...

 

I'm sorry but what is fluid film??

 

It is an anti corrosion substance, found at lowes for about $9 a can. It is non toxic, made from lanolin (sheeps wool). It protects all metal and won't harm plastics either. It never dries, always stays active in a thick, slowly creeping form, displacing water. Works great on our frames since toyotas are known to rust! I used it on my Tacoma, soon to to my 4runner. It will eventually wear off, so I reapply it about twice a year for optimal protection.

 

How does it handle mud/dust?

 

I did this mod the other day while doing an oil change. Changed it slightly since my Pelfrey skid covers the area where the OP ran the hose. Mine ends where the LCA bushing meets the frame. Easy mod. No evidence of rust on frame.

 

Not speaking for him but I swear by fluid film. Especially here in VA where they salt like it’s going out of style.

Fluid film definitely attracts a layer of dust/grime that just becomes a part of the coating to an extent. It sprays on like almost a really thick oil. Anything heavier than fine particles won’t stick (think mud). It repels most fluids that touch it.

My hands/arms get pretty gross when I have to do anything under the truck these days but at least I know it’s protected.

I just put on the hose this weekend. That is where I routed mine.

Like Omar above said, it definitely attracts dust layer, but is totally worth the protection. It does make mud and large clumpy debris easier to remove as it slides off when hit with a water hose. It makes a mess when doing something on the underside, but if needed, it can be pressure washed away with warm water, or use simple green to remove. Then when finished, just reapply to protect.

 

Just did this. $8 preventative mod. Super easy.

 

I tried getting it into that hole... but from the passenger wheel well I cannot locate shit...

 

Got around to doing my ac drain reroute preventative mod today.

 

I am adding this to my to-do list for next weekend! Inexpensive and a great mod for long run! Thanks for sharing mate!

Did this 2 weeks ago with the clear tubing, so far so good!

 

Do the 4 cylinder trucks have the same issue with AC draining onto frame?

 

I don't know, but pop your hood and look at the drain coming out of the firewall on the right side. If it has a short hose section right over the frame, then it would be a good idea to do the mod.

I didn't have rust but did it as a preventative measure.
