What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Toyota considers the fuel filter a "lifetime" part. But yah change it for sure, I've changed mine twice, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Get the WIX one from RockAuto or Oriellys. First time I changed mine was at 180K

 

I'll be damned!! I had never noticed that there wasn't a service interval for the fuel filters. I guess I am just too much old school (or just old). I have probably replaced mine at least three times, and I am only at 118,xxx, just out of habit.

 

Going to be getting headers soon. Cleaned up one of my heads. I used 3m red scotchbrite pads @Speedytech7 by hand. Not sure if this is good enough - the two most right ports are smooth to the touch, but you can still see some stuff. I didn't want to go too far since I don't want any low spots that cause leaks. Not sure about it since this is my first time doing it. Whaddy'all think? Keep going? Get a rotary tool going with the rubber nub disks?

 

That looks just fine, the gasket should be more than enough to account for slight imperfections. Recommend using Permatex copper high temp gasket maker as well, that stuff is bulletproof for exhaust work.

 

Looks good to me, if you did it by hand there should be no worries, my surface was far less clean and it seals well. I use MLS exhaust gaskets though so maybe that helps, if your worried borrow a machinists level or a known good straight edge and look for light slipping under when you lay it across the surface.

 

So sick and damn tired of aluminum across the bed boxes. Mine was new and lasted a few months. Now I have this job box. I cut the skids off the bottom and it's bolted down. Left room for bed rack in building and going to gas strut the lid next weekend if I can get the parts.

 

I got some oem gaskets (multilayered steel = MLS?) waiting to go on. @drr does that mean I should put some of the

permatex gasket maker between the mls gasket and the head? Here's my gaskets:

 

Yeah those are MLS, can't answer the copper coat (kote?) thing though, I don't use gasket coatings unless it is a thin paper gasket or a cork gasket.

 

I've been seriously thinking about getting one of those for my truck as well.

 

I want to glass in some aluminum louvers off of ebay on my fiberglass hood. What's the cheapest way to get good materials for fiberglass - ebay? Amazon? I'd like to add a good amount of reinforcement to the inside of it and I have another project for the bedsides I bought as well so I don't want to buy an overpriced little kit.
