    Newbie question!

I notice when some members post pictures of their taco’s, some have hood insulators and some do not. My taco doesn’t have one.

Were hood insulators standard equipment and do I need one? Also, does having one cause, accelerate, or delay the discoloration or peeling of the clear coat that I saw on a lot of taco’s when I was looking for one?

    Thanx...

clearcoat peeling is due to weather/sun exposure, not engine temp and bad protection (ex. never waxing)

I have never had one and it really isn't needed :)

Sounds good, guess I’ll have to keep a coat of wax on my baby. Thanx...

It's a sound 'insulator', not a temp insulator.

Purpose, even in the 60's, was to lower the interior Db ratings to make vehicles more 'plush'.

Besides, after time they get nasty and drop dust all over the engine bay when you close the hood.

It's one reason I removed mine from my '64 GTO back in the day. And so I could wax the fully painted underside of the hood. So it would reflect the chrome off the caps of the triple deuces. :D

remember it will still get hot under the hood so make sure whatever you put there is rated for the temperatures (and then some). not sure if Dynamat adhesive will handle the heat?
