Looking for advice. First time Tacoma owner with minimal truck, mechanical acuity. Willing to learn. I own a 2014 2.7L 4-cylinder 2WD. I was thinking of up-sizing tires from 245/75R16 to 265/75R16. Local tire guy says the 265/75R16 will rub. Could be a pipe dream and really not necessary for my purposes: I want to improve the off-road experience but maintain a quality on-road drive (highway).
    Here are my ideas:
    (1) I read that you could add Bilstein 5100 front struts/shocks and set them at .85? According to everything I have read this should provide approx. 1" in lift allowing the larger tires but it would "firm-up" the drive?
    or
    (2) I could forget the notion of adding 1" ground clearance and simply switch-out my Michelin LTX M/S2 245/75R16 and up-size to 265/70R16 all-terrains. I would select a lighter all-terrain like the Cooper Discoverer AT3 265/70R16.

is this a 6 lug truck, or a 5 lug truck?

I upsized mine (2.7L 2wd prerunner) from 245s to the 265/75/16s with no rub and i left the mud flaps on. Your local tire guy is wrong unfortunately.. I was also on stock suspension with an arb bumper which was making it sag about an inch below stock.. ie you are good to go if you want to upsize

Heres a pic of mine on stock suspension with the 265/75/16s

Thanks Robert. I really appreciate the information you shared and the picture of your ride. I will go with the 265/75/16s. Thanks again!

    Take care!
