I get roughly 20 and my house and work are both right off a short freeway trip.

Lol chevy is the bottem of the barrel in terms of trucks. I would buy another gmc before i ever considered another chevy. And i would go back to my top of the line ram 2500 before i considered another gm product.

I love my Tacoma, plan to keep it until I need a full size to pull a 5th wheel in retirement in about 10 years. Having said that, gas mileage is something that Toyota has dragged feet on. My girlfriend has a 2016 Silverado 4x4 crewcab with a small v8. They use technology of shutting down cylinders when you're cruising steady and that thing gets about 28mpg when we take it on road trips. Having said that, I'd keep my Tacoma in an even trade offer.

Maybe I am missunderstanding, but if you got an MT, you have the 4.30 already.

Im averaging about 19 mpg per the truck. I am 70/30 city to highway typically and have stock tires, but a full prinsu, cap, and about 700# in my bed at all times.
16 mpg for a modded truck sounds about right to me.

With mixed city/hwy driving on my mostly stock DCSB AT I've been pulling a pretty consistent 19.5-20.5 :)
And I don't drive slow (just ask my wife, LOL).

Fuel efficient truck with a unimpressive V-6. The truck is more like 25k instead of 35-40k. I'm starting to think the Nissan frontier and Xterra with the VQ40DE with the 4.0 is worth more in terms of value. Everyone is buying these trucks based off " resale value" what good is resale value if you're getting cheated?

ITS A TRUCK.... You want fuel efficiency trade it in for a Prius..

    Let's compare

    Frontier Track Proven
    4.0 V-6 VQ40DE
    Good gearset in differential.
FULL disk brakes front and rear.

    2016-17 Tacoma
3.5 2GRE-FKS V-6 From Lexus and Toyota Sienna.
Faulty differential, howl and leaking gasket.
    No disk brakes.

Go pro mount? ( how impressive)
    Phone charger ( totally useless)
    Crawl mode ( cool feature)

Someone else mentioned there are 2 different versions of this truck out there. One people love and one not so much.
Anyway, I have one of the "good"ones. I did a 280 mile loop this weekend from Colorado Springs up to Estes Park and back. Highway to Central City, ridge road to Estes Park and highway back. 24.5 mpg. Mostly slow winding roads on the way up. 65 seemed to be the sweet spot on the way back. If (due to traffic) I pushed 75-80 mpg dropped. It can be done. Totally stock 2017 OR.

Only people who wasted their money on automatic slushboxes have those issues. Us mt guys are having almost zero issues with our trucks.

Fair enough. But how does MT vs a " slush box" matter if we have the same gearset in the diff? I have a offroad

We dont have the same gear set in the rear diff. Automatics have a lower gear set than the manuals if i remember correctly.

no chance im going back to manual. I shifted all the gears id care too. Its nice to put in gear and drive. Just my preference from being truck driver for years before running trucking company now for 30yrs and had few MT personal cars and trucks along the way but at 55 im done with that

Automatic OR here and I have none of these issues.
And plenty of MT guys have had leaky howling diffs.
