I've been debating a RTT, but the hit to MPG and drive ability on the interstate doesn't seem worth it. If I had a Tacoma I'd have a low profile bed rack and a RTT mounted on that in a heart beat. I think I'll do a nice sleeping platform in the back of the 4Runner so I don't have to remove everything to sleep back there, but instead sleep on top of it. I just have to actually design it, buy the stuff, and build it. Probably a good winter project.

I had my rtt on for nearly 6 months. On road trips and around town it cost me only .5-1mpg

As to drive ability on the interstate you forget it’s up there.

Interesting. I figured it would be more like 2-3 since it's like putting a wall ontop of your roof.

How is it keeping up on the interstate? I think we've got about the same amount of extra weight, bigger tires, etc. I just assumed these things were a huge hit to MPG and act like a sail on the interstate, but I could be totally wrong.

I would've guessed more of an MPG hit too.
But wheeling with it on the roof really kills the idea for me more than the MPGs

Also @ramonortiz55, how do you like your rear bumper on the 4Runner? Have the single swing out or dual? Any rattling or movement? Sonoran Steel rear body mounts?

On my last trip to VA with it to sell it I went 355 miles to my tank. That was from the gas station on the corner near my apt. In Rock Hill,sc to the Walmart in Woodstock, va.

Kind of feel the same way. We will see how things work out, but it’s been placed in the back burner right now. Hate seeing her just sit.
