Temps finally cooled down and,.. Wow. The truck has way more power than in the heat. Does anyone know the reason for this? I assume timing, but why?

The initial registration process is complete on them. Just the final piece registering to the flash software.
We were having some issues with registering so many on one pc, so we decided to do it this way.

The final registration step is very simple

We are all just waiting for the new version or for an MT trucked to be on the Dyno.

 

Ok after receiving 1.01B and 1.02B last night I have done some driving on both and can give my initial two cents. Keep in mind my truck is an MT so I can't comment on transmission behavior. Also, my main complaint with the truck in stock form is the unacceptably slow/laggy throttle response. I knew I wasn't buying the most powerful thing out there and was ok with that but I do expect it to do what I want when I give it input, not whenever it feels like it, so quicker throttle response resulting in better overall driveability is what I hope to gain most out of this tune more so than total power gained.

1.02B
I tried this one first first assuming it was going to be the best and to be completely honest I was disappointed. I felt a slight improvement in power and maybe a very slight improvement in throttle response but nowhere near what I had hoped. I could still put my foot to the floor (in neutral) from idle and it would take over a second to even make it to 3000 rpm. This meant that rev-matching for downshifts still required stuffing my foot all the way to the floor for an unreasonably long time and just makes gear changes in general (up and down) sluggish and slow to get back in to the power, not to mention difficult to do smoothly since the engine does not respond to inputs when it's told to so you have to anticipate/guess when it's finally going to do what you're telling it to.

1.01B
Since I wasn't real happy with 1.02B I decided to switch to 1.01B when I got home from work just to see if there was much difference. I am happy to say I was immediately very happy with this one! Throttle response was much faster, it actually feels like it's paying some attention to what I'm telling it to do. Power in the low end also seemed much better than both stock and 1.02B, at least to my butt dyno. I'm not sure if it actually did make more power in the lower rpm's or if I just perceived it as being more peppy due to the throttle pedal finally feeling like it's connected to something but I'm happy regardless. All in all this made for a much better driving experience, it was much easier/quicker to get off the line from a stop which again I think is mostly attributed to the throttle actually responding, and it was much quicker to rev match for down shifts and also just made it easier to shift faster and smoother overall up and down. It also felt like it was immediately back in the power after letting the clutch back out during upshifts while at the same time getting back on the gas in a fluid motion as it's supposed to do whereas when it was stock it felt like the only way to get straight back into the power on an upshift would be to leave the gas pedal to the floor and power shift it. As a side note, although I haven't put a ton of miles on yet it seemed to get better mileage with 1.01B than 1.02B

All that said, I think there is still even a little more room for throttle response improvement. I'm not real familiar with what the throttle delay tables/graphs look like but personally I would be happy if we could just get rid of any delay at all, I just want it to behave like the good old days when we used a cable. My hopes for 1.02C and/or a future MT specific map would be to something more along the lines of 1.01B and if anything speed up the throttle response some more and get rid of some more of the rev-hang but keep the power focused down in the lower rpm's.

 

I hate to tell you but how fast an engine revs is down to internals and most of all, flywheel. (rev hang not included, that's software related)

 

These trucks have rev hang built into it. The heaviest of heavy flywheels could be be on this truck and zero rev hang and it’s still shift better.

^reason #2 why I didn’t go with a MT

 

Cooler air is denser than warmer air. More air = more power.

 

I realize that you come to a point where it just can't physically rev faster due to weight/balance of internals, flywheel weight, etc. but in the case of this truck it is absolutely being held back/slowed down by programming, and severely at that. I'm not expecting it to go screaming to redline at the slightest twitch of the throttle like a superbike, but it definitely has room to improve drastically (as we've already seen on 1.01B).

Speaking of overly heavy engine internals, I've got a '64 chevy pickup with a worn out 292 straight 6 and a tiny single barrel carb that puts this thing to shame when it comes to throttle response.

The rev hang on my FJ completely ruined me on MT. I never even considered it on my new truck. I would buy an older MT though.

 

Sorry, Off topic but OVTune mentioned earlier that 3.5L LS500 twin turbos should work with 3.5L in the Tacoma. Any updates on this? @OVTune

Quite some time ago he talked about a new upgrade coming but never heard any more??? Not sure if that was it

 

The car isn’t even out yet.

But, the engine does have a single exhaust port on each side of the engine.

 

Looks promising then, Looks like it'll be lot of work to get the turbos installed.

 

I can tell you right off the bat it wont work on the tacoma--engine oil dipstick is on the wrong side.
