No swapping out of the dealer's region - apparently Oregon and Texas are in different regions. However, I'm heading to Oregon in mid October to pick up this truck. My local dealer, from whom I've purchased 6 Toyotas was unable get one despite my order and deposit being in the works since February. I'm looking forward to a little 1300 mile journey home with it.

It's amazing. The FlyFoot technology with grippy/sticky hairs that come out of the tires are mind boggling. ;p

Make sure you vary your RPMs along the way for the 1st 500 miles to properly break in your engine. Avoid cruise control as well.

Finally secured my shift boot down with a 3/4 grommet from Home Depot. I bought an extra in case I botched the surgery on the first one; fortunately all went well.

Someone PM me if they want the extra one for free!

Hi friends, would a double clutch downshift require me to shift into gear at exactly the correct RPMs or can I shift as soon as I blip the throttle and RPMs are above the desired target rpm.

The closer you are to the correct rpm the better it is for your syncros. You're already double clutching to (I assume) save wear so might as well go as close as possible.

But no you don't have to be at the precise rpm when shifting back in, just keep learning and getting as close as you can. Consider this - you can shift into neutral while moving now and then shift into another gear without issue no? That's all double clutching is, it's not something special just because you're doing it quickly.

Wait, is it bad to hold the clutch in as you're downshifting? I don't release in neutral and depress again.

You must release the clutch in neutral before you blip the throttle, then depress it again. This is where the term "double clutching" comes from.

Okay, I was taught to just depress, go into neutral, blip throttle, back into lower gear. release clutch.

Guy swapped me a TRD short throw shifter complete with TRD shift ball a couple of weeks ago and loving it so far. I had been told they were a little more difficult to get into reverse but this one is actually easier than the stock shifter was

This is how I do it. Many claim you need to double clutch but I have never seen the need on my Tacomas. Now on my 1970 pick up I have to double clutch or it is hard to get it into the gear.

Not in my Toyotas...can some one explain why this is supposedly bad? If I depress the clutch go into neutral, blip the throttle, it falls into the next lower gear with zero pressure applied to the shifter. Then let out the clutch and there is zero jerking or reving of the motor. This make a super nice and smooth downshift. How is this bad?

And for clarification the depress clutch, hit neutral, blip the thorttle and down shift is one fluid movement. My post above makes it sound like I do one, then the next then the next...the whole process takes less than a second.
