265/65/17 vs. 265/70/17

What are the benefits of going for a higher profile tire?

 

looks basically. that's not a huge enough difference to justify "more rubber on the ground" and what have you

 

fills gaps better, looks better

little more weight, speedo affected a little more, possible loss of another minute amount of fuel efficiency



but nothing you should notice, go 70 series.

More sidewall = more compliant tire...Softer on road ride and more space between the rim and the ground.
But it will add some weight and some distance for the tire to turn.

Kind of your choice...Not a HUGE difference between those two set ups....

 

Look, ride comfort, handling. I like my 265/75/16's best mod to date including the Eibach coils , and the Bilsteins on all four corners set at zero. BTW~The largest tire you can go to with a stock suspension.

 

Do you have any rubbing with that set up?

 

I have the 265/70/17 set up and had to get rid fo the front mud flaps to fit the tires.
After that there was occasional slight rubbing on the front inner fenders. Could have lived with it, but i clipped a tiny amount of the plastic fender off with a pair of tin snips. Perfect now!

 

No rubbing.

 

I decided to go for 165X70X17 and loaded a few pictures

 

Hey Namonilne - since this is an old post I was curious how your experience was after putting on the miles with the factory 17" wheels and suspension with the BFG Dueler AT's running 265x70/17 size? Any rubbing, wear or mileage issues?
