Yep, he is a big boy! The pic was taken 8 yards from my stand last week. I hope he is there tomorrow! We are seeing some really good bucks already, which is unusual for where we hunt. They usually hide out til the rut, but not this year!

It seems that is the general concensus I know where I live on the east coast were seeing more big bucks in daylight hours than ever before the rut. I took a nice 8pt the first week of the season and dropped it off at the taxidermist and usually he will get like a dozen big deer that come in early season, this year he's up over 2 dozen

We have had some timely rains this year, plus a couple of cool spells in July and August in Central Texas. The forage is outstanding, and seeing quite a few nice bucks on trail cams. Fortunate enough to hunt a friends 44 acres for free. It doesn't sound like much land, but it is surrounded by a 6000 acre ranch which is NOT hunted. All low fenced, and it gets crazy what we see sometimes. I almost shot an emu while turkey hunting last spring. We bow hunt only, no guns allowed, but I do carry a pistol when hog hunting.

Ya that's awesome I have 1 piece of private land that I hunt and it's actually where I work as well and that's only 22 acres haha so your a little more than double what I have. I do a fair amount of public land hunting and I can usually draw a permit for either water co. land or even special federal land permits and I usually can get at least a doe every year.

Archery elk hunt was a bust. Walked about 20 miles over 3 days and only saw 1 bull and 2 cows for about 3 minutes. For some reason they just weren't in a talkative mood, so even though I knew the aspens they like to hang out in I wasn't able to find them. If they don't start talking in the next 2 weeks rifle might be a bust as well.

Tomorrow is opening day here in MI. I doubt these two will be out in daylight, but you never know! It will be good to just get out!

You guys are making me upset.

Bow season starts here this morning. *sigh* I'm not out there. Not sure I trust my accuracy yet and haven't been able to practice nearly as much as I have needed to. Might have to wait for gun season.

Congrats to all of you who have made harvests this year!

Not bad first morning, had a small buck come in at 20yds broadside. Then two does being chased by another buck flew by at 45yds. I have a good feeling about this evening.

Well, it's been a few years since I have been able to tag one. The last few years I was putting most of my effort into getting my son his first archery kill. Well that happened last year. Told myself the first legal deer that presents a shot...... Well this 5 point came in at 8am. Second buck I saw that morning. Went 70 yards and piled up down a steep creek bottom.photo (21).jpg

Yeah, he did have a big noggin. Young deer, maybe 2-1/2 year old. He'll eat real good!
