People get caught up in specs too much. Don't need a crazy expensive camera to get amazing shots. Heard a story about a photographer that got tired of people saying that his gear enabled him to take those amazing photos so he spent time shooting with a starter camera and the shots were still amazing.

Fall color is a little odd here this year, plus the weather was not cooperating. Still not too bad, but always want better :)

    Stock for now.
I've been seeing more people using Sony A7's. Thinking about switching from my Canon 70d to a Sony A7. Any thoughts? My only issue is I have big hands and the A7 body is pretty small.

What are you going to use it for? What is it going to get you? How much do you have in Canon glass? Yes, there are converters! It's only a few more MP than the 70D. If you were going to the A7r II then that may be worth the jump.

I thought about the A7r II but my 5D II still does a great job. People will tell you all about how much more dynamic range that the Sony sensors have. It might be true, but I haven't found a scene yet that I can't use my Lee filters on and get everything within range and have no clipping in either highlights or shadows.

The more I think about it, the more I think my next camera will be a 5Ds R or whatever replaces it.

    At the air show?

Btw, I got to see one of the HB lifeguard Tacos pull out a police Ford Expedition after he drove too close to the water the other year

I personally really enjoy my Sony A6k, but I'm not sure if I'd make the switch if I had money already invested in glass. Sony currently lacks in lens options, and for what they do have they seem to be quite pricey. Running an adapter is always an option but I've heard mixed reviews about AF performance and things like that when using non native glass on a Sony body.

I will likely jump up to one of the A7 models when I'm due for an upgrade but that's just me. I started on this Sony and I plan to stick with it. But you can always throw a battery grip on an A7 and basically have a camera thats about the same size as a DSLR.

Really need to upgrade to a full frame. Any suggestions that aren't killer for the wallet?

    Sounds like you're a candidate for a 5DmkII. Or a A7r.

Really love the way Sony's pictures come out but they are just a tad out of my price range. I was hoping to spend around $1000-$1200. I guess I could sell my T3i for money.

Quick question, can I keep my old lenses and use them on a full frame?

You can't use EF-S lenses on a full frame. They are designed so that the end of the glass extends further into the camera so if you try to use it on a full frame for one it won't mount and for two if you do like some have done and change the mount, you run the risk of the mirror slapping into the end of the lens and breaking.

5D Mk II should be able to be found used for a decent price. But if all you have is EF-S glass, you'd have to change that.

You can mount EF (full frame) lenses on crop sensor cameras, just not vice versa.

If you just do landscape stuff or even portraits where things aren't moving fast - i.e. sports, weddings, etc. then the slower focus really shouldn't matter at all. I use manual focus for all my landscape photos anyway.

I was looking into the A7 lens. I found a mint condition one on eBay with a SonyFE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens for $1,100.

Thoughts on the A7 instead of the A7R?

Honestly, I am just picky and would like my pictures to be a little more crisp. Some days I feel my T3i is awesome, other days I feel like the pictures should come out a ton better.

Seeing full frame photos make mine look grainy and weak.

The photo is quite nice. Have you thought of getting some L glass? If you still want to upgrade the body and stay with Canon then you already have some really really nice glass. If not, then you will almost always get top $$$ for L glass on the used market.

**Wait, this is a crop body...does L glass work on a crop body?
