Opinions on Bug Deflectors and window Wind Deflectors....

Hello all,

I have putting some miles on my new 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road Double Cab/Long Bed ....and one thing that I have noticed it that the windshield is a bug magnet! Worse then any other vehicle I have driven......

Can anyone suggest a good bug/stone deflector? I would be interested in the one with the best in looks and fit? I would prefer one in black if possible......

Also, which company makes the best Wind Deflector for the windows? Again, in black if possible? But I would want them to match the bug/stone deflector of course...

I believe most people don't use the Bug Deflector anymore I am not sure. I have AVS In Channel Vent Visors on mine for 3 years now with no issues.

 

I put the AVS Aeroskin II on and have noticed less bugs on the windshield in areas where I typically got covered in them.

AVS for me. No issues.

 

I got it off of Amazon for about $85. Part number 436079. It is textured and matte black. Looks good with the black moldings on the Off Road package.

 

Bug deflector looks ok on certain colors. Wind deflectors I don't like at all.

 

Used to buy the AVS vent visors and bug deflectors exclusively for both my old Tacos and my wifes vehicles....I switched it up this year and bought the Weather tech vent visors and like them much better, just because of the "snap" in method vs the stickyback method. The rear has a little clip you need to insert into the rubber weather striping but no big deal.

I went with the AVS bug deflector though. I could not tell a difference between the AVS and Weather Tech.

OP: I noticed you are in WV, I have an extra AVS bug deflector that I did not put on due to a couple of minor scratches...I am looking to get rid of it and am near the B'more / Frederick area if you are interested. And/or heading out to Western MD in a week or so. If so PM me and ill send you some photos..

I often have to drive up the California Northern coast. I was tired of having the constant bug splatter on my windshield and ended up getting the AVS bugflector 2. To be honest, I barely notice a difference. I really wanted to justify the purchase, but I feel like it didn't really make a difference. Remember to always clean off the bugs on your paint. Since I drove long distances and never had the chance to wash my truck, the "guts" began to etch into my clear coat. I was only able to remove some of the stubborn stains with a clay bar and wax. I can still see minor marks on my paint to this day.

I do agree that some colors and models look better with a deflector. I like the deflector look on an OR with no hood scoop. The hood scoop with deflector makes the front end look too busy.

 

Very nice looking Tacoma by the way! I do like the look of the AVS on it! Sorry to hear that it didnt help much, as I am getting the very same problem with bugs. I am paranoid about getting them washed off right away.......but was hoping something would work. Thanks for the advice and for posting the pict!

 

Well Thanks to @Sauer Taco I know have a very nice AVS Bugflector 2 on my 2017 Tacoma OR! I like it very much and hope it will help redirect some of those insects that seem to be dive bombing my windshield! Thanks @Sauer Taco

Now, I need to find a matching set of AVS vent/rain guards for the windows on by Double Cab!

Has anyone else had issues with a symmetrical fit with the AVS 2 hood deflector? I’ve noticed the gaps above the inner portion of the headlights are different sizes and I can not adjust it to fit properly. I can also put a slight amount of pressure on the right one and the deflector ends up touching the truck, leading me to worry about rubbing the paint.

Which is a second issue, there are four spots along the edge of the hood that look like the paint is being rubbed off. :/

Anyone else have these issues? I’ll take pictures.

 

AVS in channel window vents are nice. The bug deflector is a little much for my taste.

 

I like mine. They work for me.

 

I prefer the low profile aspect of the AVS AeroskinII. Works really well.


I'm 6'4" tall so the window things don't work for me....obscure too much.

I can't speak to the ease of removal or re-installation.

I put mine on, following their recommended steps and using their supplied 3M tape. I'd washed and dried my car that day so it went onto a pristine surface....and I used their prep wipe, too.

It's been on there 10 months and doing well with interstate speed daily driving and weekend pressure washing cleaning. If it ever came off, then I'd simply reapply with some more double sided tape from 3M (Home Depot or Lowe's sells it) and let it ride.
