KC HiLiTES Chaselight Bar

I recently installed a KC HiLiTES chase bar on my Tacoma (thanks @Taylor@KC HiLiTES) . I grabbed it for a few reasons. My tent is on full time so I wanted to move the third brake light out so I still had one. I wanted a bright reverse light. Plus the chaselight is cool. So why not.

Install is fairly straightforward. It has a main power wire then different wires for different setups. Here are the options they give you (I can't find the instruction page so you get an image instead):


I had to google the mfg'r of the light bar to figure out how to attach the brackets. I'll save you the trouble. You pull the non corded end off and slide the bolts in. Then the brackets (sold separately) bolt to those. You can either mount so they face out like in the pic or tucked in. I chose tucked but don't have a pic of that.

I hooked mine up to be switch for reverse and amber. But tails and brake lights for the two red options. You can't really tell from the photos but the two reds are quite different. Pictures of lights is kind of tough, so here go.

What kind of switches are you running? Can you wire to flash one or both ambers?

I am using a switch pros for everything.

And yep. As you saw. You can only strobe both though. Not individually. I was going to use them as signals but decided as a light was better.

 

That's pretty cool. I was looking for a similar solution, I have a mid rack kb voodoo rack as well. Instead of the tent however, I'm going to put my spare tire up there and a couple of water/fuel jugs. This is a perfect solution to have a functional 3rd brake light again. Thanks! Would you mind letting me know how you wired it up for brake light function?

 

I’ve been looking at these, and maybe @TaylorU can answer, are these the only street legal chase bars? There’s a couple of brands like xpsrites and rlbstore.com that sell similar for half price, but I want what’s quality. Just curious on your input.

 

I bought one as well, did you ever do turn signals? Or just brake lights and switch on ambers?

 

Mine’s amber switched. Unless you take apart the bar and rewire it, the ambers are hooked together. I originally was going to use them as signals too.

Hi sorry to bring up a dead thread but could you go into more detail on how you wired it up? I have a Switch-Pros 9100 and ordered the chase bar today

 

I wired the reds into my tail lights. The amber and white into the switch pro.

it’s really easy. Each color light has its own wire. So no different then hooking up multiple lights.

 

If you have questions when doing it let me know.

 

Did you run the red to where the brake light wire is under the hood or did you go all the way to the rear?

 

Mine is mounted on my rack at the rear after my tent. So it’s pretty close to the tail gate.

All of the red lights (dim to tails and brights to brakes) I ran to the passenger side tail light. The reverse (white) and amber I ran up to my switch pros under the hood.
