Right??? I am a road cyclist (some mountain) and put my bike in the bed all the time. Gotta have a 6-footer!! Matter of fact, I'm about to drive to the shop to drop off the '99 and ride my bike home. My temp gauge is messed up, they gotta get in the cluster and replace it. The truck isn't overheating, just a bad gauge. I could do it but would rather pay my shop an hour in labor. The truck is starting to nickle and dime me big time, can't complain as it owes me nothing. I've got it sold but won't sell it with a wacky (jumping all over) temp gauge. BRING ON THE 2018's!!!!!!!!

Toolbox comes out in 5 minutes with 2 J hooks so it still has more usable space than the shortbed.

Got the short bed myself . Didn't want a "long" truck like my F150 . Have hauled everything I wanted so far , including my yak . If it takes more than the bed , well , thats why I have my trailers .

I have the short bed and have zero issues with hauling what i need. Welders, generstors, tool boxes etc. If i need to haul my dirt bike i just leave the tail gate down. They make tie downs and bed extenders for a reason lol.

Me too. I'm happy with my SR, but I wanted an OR Access Cab with 3 pedals. I've seen many others say the same. It's frustrating that Toyota does produce them, but sells them only in Canada. Many members here had to wait, or travel to get a MT. Others have settled on trim choice, or configuration, or went with with the 'gear hunter'. Makes it difficult to believe the "lack of demand for MT" argument from Toyota.

Wish Toyota would pull their heads out of their backside and make a DCLB MT.

I hope there is a revival of more manly Long Bed regular and extended cab trucks in the future

    Fresh gas.
I parked my AC next to a buddies new DCSB. Wheelbase was the same, but the DCSB was about 10 to 12inches longer overall.

During the summer my wife, child and I take a 5,000 mile road trip. Have you ever sat in a jump seat for 5,000 miles in 12 days ? It's called comfort. Also I want my kid to have a view of some of the coolest things in America!

I think I can provide a completely different approach to why I am leaning towards a shortbed on my near future purchase. DCSB TRD OR MT 4x4.

I own two trucks already, and have zero plans to rid myself of either once I get the new one.

1997 F350 PSD CC LB AT 4x4 with only 124k miles on it.

1997 Taco XtraCab LB MT 4x4 with 217k miles on it.

    Both will stay stock.

New truck will be my play truck, and will get lift, tires, possibly 4.88s, soft topper, kayak rack, etc....

Best of all worlds for me.

One could say the same thing about auto vs manual.

I prefer manual on my smaller more nimble vehicles.

To me automatics are used to get me from point A to point B without much input. Manuals are more for the experience. More user input = more fun to drive.

Not gonna happen, someone put up here one day how the EPA figured Gas Mileage for Trucks and the greater the interior volume the less stringent the requirement, that is why single cabs have been phased out.

As a longtime Toyota truck owner I have a hobby specific need for my truck. Everyone has their own needs, wether a people hauler or something with a little bit more bed length. Toyota has not built a long bed in many years, so now we have a choice of short bed (6') or extra short bed (5')
My last truck was an 05 dbl cab 6' bed, prior to that I had a 2002 dbl cab and it was insufficient for my needs. I prefer a Manual transmission, but my only option in 2005 for a dbl cab and 6' bed was an automatic trans. My family dynamics changed and I no longer needed a people hauler and I wanted to row my own gears, so the only option for me is model # 7559 AC 4x4 V6. Sure I would have preferred an off road variation, but I'm not Canadian.

Pros of a dbl cab long bed are many if you don't mind the automatic transmission. I really liked the highway ride and with beefed up springs it actually looks in proportion. The cab is a lot quieter than my 7559 but I really am enjoying the feel of this truck once I got used to the power train.

Cons of a dbl cab 6' bed is navigating tight mountain roads, but it always got me there and back.
    Just my 02cents.

I started with a 2010 regular cab long bed. After two kids came along I went to a double cab long bed.
Then I wanted 4x4 and the updated interior and traded for a new 2017 double cab short bed.

This is my main vehicle for hopping around Austin and hunting. The short bed actually fits in my garage when it hails. And for getting around parking garages and parking lots the short bed makes my life a lot easier. I drove both for awhile, and for my needs right now the short bed is great. When I was rebuilding my twice flooded home by hand, I did it all out of my long bed but those days are over. Now I'm hauling strollers to the park and blinds to the woods.

Short bed all day for me. Fits all of my camping gear, and is far more nimble and maneuverable on the back roads, which is my primary purpose for this truck other than driving around town (where a 3ft bed would probably work even better o_O:D).
