Has anyone experience a clutch pulsation during an early morning or dyring the first gear engagement of the day? If so, is this a TIL recall issue or a recent occurrence? What did you do to resolve?

Give it a minute or two, instead of jumping in the truck and driving off in ten seconds. Your truck has several diagnostic check it runs after starting the engine. Next time start it and wait for a bit before engaging the clutch.

What do you mean by clutch pulsation? My clutch was gritty/chattery starting around 6 months in. I thought the clutch was shuddering, turns out it was just a super creaky/notchy pedal mechanism. The dealership lubed the assembly using some sort of grease that they had to special order (seriously, they "didn't have the grease in stock") and it's perfect since.

Not a pedal mechanism issue. It appears to be at the clutch plate, it pulsates as I let out the petal.

is this your first truck? what you describe is, if understanding your description like i think, normal... especially for a cold or low mileage clutch. it's grabbing like it's supposed to do. there are springs in the flywheel that buffer the grabbing so it's not harsh, and that leads to what i think you're describing.

Not my first manual transmission or truck. I have 20,000 miles on my Taco. This issue started at about 18,500 miles.

There has been a report of a clutch go bad due to over torquing and warping the pressure plate I think. I forget where I saw it. I believe he got a new clutch assembly and flywheel. Not much of a help perhaps, but it gives you something to search for.

Its not normal, these trucks have a very smooth clutch with a nice wide modulation band in my experience.

This happened to me. They replaced the pedal bushings, it looks like nothing was lubed from the factory and they wore out in 15k miles. Probably doesn't help I sit in stop and go traffic most days...

Also noticed that I have/had a chatter too. Mostly disappeared when they fixed the pedal. Thought I had a warped flywheel or something. It felt like driving an old tractor trailer haha.

Yeah sounds like the same deal with me. They told me if the grease didn't fix it they would replace the pedal assembly as well. It's been fine so far, a few K in since the fix. Still have 18k left on my factory warranty so if it flares up again I'm going to have them replace the whole thing.

don't have the chatter like described here, but my pedal is weird for sure. at first i thought it was just a cheap bit on the truck, but now i'm convinced it's not just a cheap POS, but is actually slightly defective. aside from the groaning, creaking, and general plasticky-ness, it's also loose. all the pieces on the pedal assembly itself are loose and moving around. when i went at it with some lithium, i felt around in there, and every part of it was wobbling around. will have the dealer check it next change. 20k 'yota care coming up in a couple months.

I feel vibrations in the pedal and hear a subtle chatter when under moderate to high load such as on a hill. Pedal decent squeak or bind though.

Yup. Mine was making noises and then one day it got really wobbly so I brought it in. The bushings were completely worn through and that is what caused the sounds and looseness. GREATLY improved after installing new bushings (and grease this time!)

The bushings from factory are plastic with some kind of bronze spring-like liner. Very thin, and prone to wear. I think those of us that use the clutch more often will probably see it wear out sooner. I sit in a lot of traffic and do a lot of city driving during the week so I think that's why mine let go so early.

Maybe the aftermarket could catch up and make a big improvement with some kind of DIY pressed-in sintered bronze bushing that wouldn't wear out...not sure though. Maybe we can find one off-the-shelf that would fit.

I also hear a noise, but there is no vibration, very smooth. I've been curious what the noise is, but it must be normal, as its always been there. It almost sounds like a loose exhaust shield buzz. :notsure:

I'm curious what this chatter you refer to is...I had my windows down and I've been noticing a noise when first starting in 1st gear when the clutch engages, similar to a shovel scraping against concrete but very slightly and not that loud. Enough to notice however. I posted this in the manual trans forum as well.
