The app takes some playing with. There’s are a TON of things this this can read. It’s ridiculous. Even more stuff that techstream reads!

I too use this exact same setup with Carista - the refresh rate isn’t as wicked fast as you’ll get with the Tactrix but it’s oretty decent for heads up displays and you can produce logs and whatnot which helped me find my CKP and MAF issues initially based on readings

Modded it so much it turned into a 4Runner
Flashed 1.01B yesterday just to see the difference between it and 1.02B. I thought 1.02B was solid with my rig but damn 1.01B is nice. Extremely smooth through acceleration and holds speed better on the highway without lugging the engine.

i installed 102.b last week. Definite improvement over stock. Mostly noticed good performance going uphills now ...truck didn't have to downshift to 4th to get over. When you hit the throttle the truck actually speeds up now.
Last night I installed 101.b for two reasons...I want to see the difference between the tunes...and two it's so easy to do. I really enjoy driving this truck.

I've realized, after reading through this thread, that ignorance is bliss. Either that or Toyota got their act together by the time i bought mine a couple weeks ago? Nahhh, I'm just dumb and happy with a dumb ol grin.

This thing is just so much damn fun to drive. It reminds me of an old 2 stroke i used to rip around the hills on when i was younger. First gear is just a truck first gear to me- low and slow and just fine (Love it for idling in traffic). Second gear is where it gets fun. I hit that old 2 stroke power band at about 3300 and it blasts forward. Third seems a tiny bit taller (understand that i know nothing about the actual ratios yet) but i still find that power band pretty quickly. I forgive 3rd because its such a perfect "cruising around town" gear. By the time i hit 4th, I'm back in the groove again and it rips into that 3300-4000 rpm magic zone satisfyingly quickly. By then, I'm usually going faster than i should anyway, so i either let off and just enjoy a little gentle 4th gear engine braking or toss it into one of the o/d gears (i assume 5th and 6th both o/d?) and cruise, cruise.

I grew up with old straight 6 Fords (great trucks, mind you). Maybe it's that i havent had a new truck since 1991. Anyway, this thing is awesome. I like that i can push and drive the crap out of it for fun, and also back off and make it get (kinda) decent gas mileage.

Maybe i got a gem, maybe I'm ignorant. Either way, bone stock happy here.

So on cruise control your truck holds 5th or 6th? What speeds? Any hills? Even bone stock, the transmission is all over the place shifting like a confused child with ADD for nearly all 3rd gen owners. I doubt you got the one unicorn truck out of the 100k-ish sold since they all use the same transmission and factory maps that OP has shown in this thread..... I'm talkin AT

He has a M/T and he sounds like what we used to call a "gas or brake" driver....as in ALWAYS either on the gas or on the brakes...nothing wrong with that, but it's the opposite of the way I learned to drive. If you have a M/T and are a "gas or brake" driver that will mask much of the drive-train issues that drives many of us nutz on our Tacomas. I used to ride 2-stroke motorcycles (dirt and street) and I LOVED their power delivery....for a motorcycle. 2-stroke dirtbike like power delivery for my DD truck is a bleepin PITA to me, but different strokes for different folks. He's lucky as his preference is gonna save him nearly $800.

Oops. Sorry, i should have specified I've got a manual transmission. Maybe it's letting me make up for the engine issues?

folks who have gotten kits but no files yet, I can understand the impatience - I was obsessively refreshing email for a long time as well. For the rest of us looking forward to the next release, let’s all give Mat a breather - he did set clear expectations that he would be tied up for the most part this week - so we can’t expect a ton of progress on 1.02.whatever until he frees up a bit. It’s clear to me that Tacos have been his primary focus in recent weeks but he does have other platforms to support and we all knew that going in. Quality will take a bit of time and as I’ve said before - set a release date, know it will get pushed out as fine tuning occurs. Between 1.02 and 1.01 releases, depending on your truck/tastes I doubt many will be saying “damn, stock was waaaay better”.

Haha! Yes, Speedtre (sheepish grin) you are not far off the mark. I got it from my mom, incidentally.

I also get a charge out of getting the maximal gas mileage out of a tank, so I'm a confused person.

I should make it clear (so I'm not just crapping on the thread) that although I'm happy with my stock Taco (sTaco?), this stuff is super intriguing to me. As a former farmboy cum computer geek, I like the idea of optimizing the ECU for ones needs. Cool stuff.
