That's something that I have thought of too. NEVER seen an oil filter in such a PIA place to get to!

I do not know about the Gen 2 or 3 I just know that it is a filthy mess to change the filter on 1st Gen 2.4, 4 Cyl it is right over the frame and steering rack!!!! The clean up takes longer that the oil change. I thought I saw one on someone's post but am unable to find it.

    Must be a 2.4 thing

I have no issues with the 3.4

Then getting oil running down my Arm is a given

Amsoil makes a kit. I haven't been able to justify it yet. The biggest issue is that the relocated filter needs to be at or below the current location, otherwise the oil pump might not be able to handle the extra load. Such a location will put the filter in danger of rocks and other hazards.

Even the 3.4 is messy to change.

Practice the "turn" on a boot of beer. Eventually you will learn the trick.

Yeah, the 3.4 always has drips, gotta move the pan to catch it.

Also, individual quarts cost more, I just use a funnel with the 5 quart. Pour with the spout on the upper end, there's a reason it's designed that way :)

It's cheaper for me to buy a case of 6 quarts. Than to buy a 5 quart jug plus that single quart to use 1/2 of it. That's just me though. Not sure if that's what you meant.

5.4 quarts is the recommended amount to put in. Anymore it's usually 4-5 months before I change oil. Walfart has the cheapest price for a 5 quart jug @ $24. I have several leftover half quarts from the days of buying 6. If I can find a cheaper price for 6 or 12 I might buy it.

I found the Oil Filter relocation kit at summit racing. kit number is 1113, and cost $ 59.95 ($69.92 shipped to my door) I will update info after I install the kit (at next oil change)

That's odd. I just bought a 5-quart jug of Valvoline 5W-30W for $16. Been paying $16 for the jugs for the last several years (at least since 2010)...

Guess I'm just dense or sumpthin, but I don't know why you have several leftover half-quarts of oil. You could use them to top off during your oil changes.

    I buy Mobil1 Synthetic :)

I used to buy 6 quarts and use 5.5 quarts for fill up. I never lose or burn any oil between changes so no need to supplement. I just kept putting them behind my seat in case and eventually forgot the next time I changed oil. I don't have any left now so no biggie. But I do need to buy some Racing 4T for my bike change so grabbing 5 will get me the current rebate :)

I relocated my filter to the outside of the passenger side frame, mounted horizontally. The hoses are sleeved, and the side step covers things up. I plan to slip on an oil filter cooling cover. This gives me a half quart extra with the big filter.
