I'm currently running a toytec boss up front with 2" lift on my '17 4x4 OR. I'd like to get an inch more lift to make the truck level, without adding a bunch of preload.

Looking at king extended travel coilovers for 3" lift. Will there be enough down travel with this configuration? I have total chaos UCA's and a diff drop.

    Is this a worthy upgrade/setup?

    Yes, I do go wheeling...

It's a great setup, but they suggest you stay around 2.5"s or the ride gets stiffer. That said mine are set to 2.75" and I love them.

What he said and I would lose the diff drop as they do nothing on the 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma.

The extended travel doesn't mean it lifts you higher, it just drops a little further and you have to have aftermarket uca to make use of it. You will still have to preload the shock to get more lift, same as your boss now.

Thanks for the info guys. Are all of the current king coilovers "extended" length? Their site doesn't list a separate part #

No they don't all come that way. They are usually modified by a dealer not manufacturer (downsouth motorsports for instance). They have an ext option in a drop down box.

Or call them. They are awesome.

Nice. I also just purchased king shocks today, just the front end. I recently bought a 2015 Off-Road 4x4. Have an appt. to throw them on on Monday!

Sweet. I'm going to attempt a self install this time. I'll post some build pics.

I wouldn't recommend more than 2" of lift on the extended coilovers. With too much lift you don't have enough droop travel and the shocks full extended frequently and violently. This feels terrible and is hard on the shock and other suspension components.

Isn't the point of extended travel to have extra droop that could be safely used for extra lift if you wanted?

Yes it is, I'd recommend less lift on the stock height ones. People run them higher, but ride quality suffers. My second Tacoma had Icon's set at 3" of lift and the ride was horrible. I lowered it down to 2" and it was better.

I'll probably set it at 2.5" since I've got the extended travel and aftermarket UCA's.

I'd really like to level the truck, but not at the expense of ride quality.

It's worth trying, everyone has a different tolerance for these things.

Holy crap that was fast, I ordered my Kings from a different vendor mid August and didn't get them until over a month later. They were 1st gen Kings though so maybe that had something to do with it.

Word of advice, adjust the preload (if you want to) before they go on the truck. I tried doing mine on the truck and my SPC UCA was in the way...it's a nightmare to work around. Maybe you'll have enough droop with the TC arms to avoid it though.
