Looks like Toyota will be bouncing back in March with a projected 30 percent increase in sales! Apparently the hefty incentives are blunting any further erosion in sales from the acceleration issues so you have to give Toyota sales/marketing some credit here. More people are now talking about their rebates than the gas pedal debacle and that’s exactly what Mr. Toyoda probably ordered.
    From AutoNews.com:
NEW YORK — Perhaps seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, Toyota expects March sales to be up 30 to 35 percent over year-ago figures, outpacing industry gains, its top U.S. executive said today.
Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., said the “biggest surprise has been the RAV4,” which saw sales surge to an expected 22,000 units in March, far above the crossover’s typical sales. Lentz theorized that perhaps RAV4 incentives were a bit high.
While both car and truck sales have risen, “it’s really light trucks that are driving the business,” Lentz told journalists gathered outside the NADA/IHS Global Insight Forum here.

The 30% increase (or 40% if you read other places) is a percentage increase from March to March. So Toyota sales are up 40% from last year. I believe I read their sales are only up 7% or so from last month. People tend to hear "Toyota sales are up 40%" and react to that and somehow equate that Toyota overcame this large hurdle, and their sales are up as a result. Brand loyalty, and large incentives helped Toyota last month, but the overall auto industry is up significantly from last year, not just Toyota.

However, there is no comparison between Toyota's situation and the other manufacturers because the bullshit acceleration "issue" should've absolutely killed sales last month, which is when the hype hit its peak. So, in fact, Toyota is doing great, all things considered.

I agree. In spite of the media onslaught, Toyota still managed to show an increase in sales from February to March of 7%. Toyota owners are loyal, Toyota was forced to offer huge incentives, and there is a portion of the population who feels Toyota is being "picked on", all of which helped Toyota show an increase.

Well he is my $.02. I was so pissed at the media and the communist government we have in power and how they were trying to take Toyota down I went and bought a new 2010 DC TRD OF 4x4 SR5. Wasn't planning on getting a new truck but I got rid of my '04 tacoma DC TRD OF 4x4 SR5. It had many more years of service in it but I wanted to make a statement. I have a new one that I am totally pleased with and have started ot mod to my liking. Go Mr. Toyoda. You make a statement too.
