I have, but I am not really sure what to get. Any suggestions?

I do mostly truck stuff, sometimes landscape and architectural.

Yes, L glass is EF mount which works on both. You just get a different FOV.

    Canon crop factor is 1.6x.

So a 50mm lens on a 1.6x crop body will have the same FOV as 80mm on a full frame.

Also, with full frame if you are at wide apertures your DOF will appear to be less than the same shot on a crop body, so there is some getting used to things.

I'd say the crop is fine - get some good glass. Doesn't have to be L. You can get some good glass by using primes like the 85mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.4 and they are relatively inexpensive compared to L glass.

I find one of the best values is the 24-105 F/4L IS though 24mm isn't super wide on a crop. You should be able to find one of those used for around $700 or even less.

Should I upgrade my glass or the body? Again, it is a T3i.

Landscape full frame is nice because you can go wider. But the 10-22mm EF-S is a great lens for crop that is good quality and wide.

I always advise to invest in glass first. The crop camera should be fine for what you do.

I don't have access to it, but if I remember I can post a sample photo that I took with a 10D and 50mm f/1.4. I've printed it at 16x20 with no issues whatsoever. So full frame + megapixels aren't everything. I did plenty of landscape stuff with 20D/40D before I got my 5D II. They are still great shots.

    Invest in good glass.

Invest time to learn the techniques and practice.

Invest in full frame down the line.

If you want, send me a photo you think is great and one you think needs to be a ton better, with the EXIF info intact. Hell send the RAW if you have them if you want. I will help you out if I can.

Basically the T3i is a 40D I believe. Just without some of the features. Glass will help. But what do you feel the camera doesn't do well that a new camera will? What specifically do you find holds you back? Max shutter speed? Faster FPS?

I am by no means a professional but do enjoy high quality photographs. I'm just running an iPhone 6s with a editing app. The above pictures are raw and unedited although some of my pictures are edited using an app. I would like to have a DSLR camera but I do have a Nikon coolpics L100 that takes semi-decent photographs.

your pictures look good. I wouldn't upgrade. Unless you are shooting professional wedding pictures.

Hey all. I dunno how I've missed his thread. Lol

I use a Canon 5D mkII and use the 100-400mm L f4.5-5.6 lens for mainly my dirt bike and truck photography and then a full manual Samyang 24 f1.4 for my landscape and star photography. The next lens I use the most besides those two is the canon 50mm 1.4, 16-35 L f4 IS, and an old 80-200mm f4.5 from a rebel film camera (hardly ever use it anymore since I got the 100-400). I also have some old Nikon glass that I use with an adaptor all full manual. 70-300mm, 18mm, 15mm fisheye, 24mm tilt shift, and monster nikor 400mm f4.

That would be great! Once I get off mobile here I will send you some photos.

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I just like really crisp looking photos like @DesertDigger just posted. Mine are clear and I think I do a good job with photography, but I just want my photos to be more crisp and clear. So I'm not sure if that is my camera holding me back or something I'm doing wrong settings wise.

The T3I should be on the same level as the 70D. The T1i which I had was a watered down 50D.

@Kohan21n A lot of what people consider crisp has to do with focus as well. Getting lenses with larger apertures leads people to shoot really shallow. Nailing critical focus is important. Light quality is a factor as well as it can affect the percieved sharpness.

Youre right, its actually a 60d. The T2i and T3i are pretty much the same. I had a T1i and it was out the same time as the 50D.

Ill say that once i stepped up to a full frame camera, i started getting better pictures.. BUT IT WASNT RIGHT AWAY! Kinda had to relearn how to use it. Certain tricks didnt carry over, and a good plus for full frame is that it handles color and noise much better. I want to upgrade to the 5D MkIV for some 4K Vids and way better high iso noise control.

Getting photos to look crisp like that is mainly done in post, but the better foundation you have to work with, the further you can go with a photo. It also helps to have some crystal clear glass in front of that sensor.

Any tips, or videos that help with post editing? I normally just edit the shadows, highlights and a touch of clarity.
