    Hi, I have 06 taco Off Road access cab, 4x4, 6 speed manual trans. with all the crap on it, like steel bumpers front and rear, bed rack and sometimes my RTT, it feels very underpower, what do you guys with experience on this suggest? 4.56 or 4.88 gears, im running 33s with a 3" toytec lift.

    Are you trying to restore stock performance?

    Do you anticipate ever getting larger than 33” tires?

    It depends what your goals are for this.

    When the 4.0L is running as it should, you should have plenty of power. Are you talking about street driving, or when you're off-road? What kind of off-road driving? The Access Cab is a bit lighter weight than the DC to begin with, but you do have hundreds of extra lbs. Still, IMO the 4.0L should have plenty of grunt if it's running well. You have even more control with a manual tranny, are you pushing the engine into the higher RPM's?

    Most folks agree that the only way to increase actual power is adding a supercharger, just be prepared to write a big check! Re-gearing will help you some, especially on the trails, and you'll pull better on the highway, all at the expense of fuel consumption.

    Are you planning on going bigger than 33s?

    Since you are manual trans, you want 4.10 for 33s and 4.30 for 35s.

    Regearing eases strain on the transmission. Even if someone slapped a supercharger on and it felt better, it's not better. OP, I'm in a similar boat as you. When the time comes, I plan on going to 4.56. The reason being I want to still retain decent highway drive ability, even though this is my second vehicle.

    I want to reiterate that for 33s you want 4.10 not 4.56.

    4.30 would be perfect for you. 4.10 only brings you back to stock powerband bc of your larger tires but it doesn't compensate for the added weight. 4.56 wouldn't be bad either and still gives you room to increase weight and or tire size but don't get 4.88

    4.56 is too much. He will be running over 3k on the highway at 70. Even 4.30 will be at 3k with 33s.
    Its a tradeoff and you need to ask yourself what you want. The higher you go the better low end power you will have but you lose on the top end.

    Do you highway travel alot? If so that needs to be in your consideration. 4.10 will be stock gearing for you with 33s. 4.56 you will be revved pretty high.

    I'm on 35s and at 70 I'm doing 3k with 4.56. It's loud and eats gas like crazy.

    This.

    The Auto needs 4.56 and 4.88's. The transmission in the Manual is very different so you don't correlate the same gear ratios in the diff!

    I'm running 4.56's on my V6 AUTO on 33's with armor, topper, etc.

    Close to stock revs on 35s with MT requires 456s.

    For an Automatic. Yes.

    OP has a Manual though. Different transmission gearing.

    Not how I've heard it before. Nor when I found a calculator to do all the maths a year or more ago.

    AT = 4.10 on 33's
    AT = 4.56 on 35's

    Keeping in mind an AT is 3.73 from factory.
    Where as I think MT's are 4.10?

    Same gearing from the factory for both. At 70mph on 35s with 456 I'm at ~2500 rpms in 6th gear.
