Wasn't that just 1 person? I don't know anyone who's had electrical issues from installing HIDs, especially with a relay since it doesn't use factory wiring harnesses.

That guy had his dash replaced I think. I've seen two. Someone else had to get a their ECU swapped out... I don't remember who.

    1. Check the battery voltage, low battery voltage will give you all sorts of electrical problems because everything is connected to sensors and is dependent on correct voltage readings.

So 2 out of the ton of people who have them swapped? I think the guy with their ECU replaced realized it wasn't the HID kit. If you use a relay kit there is zero possibility of an HID kit frying your electronics. A guy ran them without a relay and all he did was blow a fuse. He could just replace the fuse with a higher amp fuse and it woulda ran just fine as well. This looks like bad transmission work.

I guess I didn't read far enough on his thread. I agree, the transmission work looks like it was done incorrectly.

One very plausible issue would be that when they installed the tranny,
they connected a wiring harness but didn't secure it (didn't click) and
it now has slipped off. But this is a SWAG.

Regardless, this sounds more electrical than anything.

I hate it for ya cuz. Electrical gremlins are the worst.
Having done quite a few R&R's for a trans shop, I would first look for pinched wires between the bell housing of trans and engine block. It's real easy for a tech to pinch a wire or two when re-installing a trans...Good luck.

Not true. There have been some cases reported here of trucks completely stalling out on the highway with "high trans temp" messages only because the CKP (not CPS) sensor failed.

OP, If you wanna take a $100 chance to get this running, get a new CKP sensor and try again. For some reason, it kicks the hi trans temp code when cranking and fails to fire up.

If you don't want to take the chance or not a DIY'er, just get it towed and let us know the outcome.

Update, a tow truck is coming to pick my baby up and taking it straight to the dealer. Beyond frustrated right now.

So sorry for that bud. Hopefully it's just a bum CKP sensor, which is easy fix.

I thought I remembered reading something about a HID kit causing electrical problems on a gen 3 that were kind of like this. Do some searching in google on tacomaworld for HID headlight kit problems. There was a couple of decent threads about it.

    I agree with this .

A completely computer controlled transmission that was recently installed needs to be scanned for codes .
My first guess is also a loose connection , however , without a computer diagnosis , we just guess at answers .
Scanner first always to avoid the guessing

    CKP, not CPS.

In Toyota land, Crankshaft Position Sensor is CKP (dumb).

I'm running HID's behind an external relay, 10k miles, no issues.

I agree completely, take it back to the dealer. Don't bang your head aganist a wall....if it was something small, maybe.....Trans??? NO WAY.
They should come get it, and repair it. No questions asked.
