I'm a bit behind the curve... but with Rock Therapy less than 2 weeks out I need to finally plan where the hell I'm going to camp. LOL I'll be tent camping with my dog and my sister.

Where is everyone going to be at?

And is there a central location where the Rock Therapy group itself is going to be based? Mainly asking to figure out where to meet up with more experienced folks who will be organizing group trail rides and such.

@lotsoftoys @NYCO I dont know how full your groups are...but for people like this who want to join a group that knows how to run these trails, are you lot at liberty to post up a vague schedule of when youre runnning shit during the event so new comers can join? Id do the same for us but i dont think...hardly anyone wants to join us for most of the stuff we do, and of course later on in the week if we run an easy trail Ill post it up for sure. But until thursday its probably going to be all 9 trails for us

Nice. Yeah I'm certainly not comfortable doing the trails solo at this point. Don't much know my way around. And should something break... I'm not really mechanical. LOL

Im running it solo for the most part, or well planning to if I cant find some others to tag along with. If you look back a little ways in the thread, I sorta asked similar questions and was given some suggestions on what to check out.
Im probably going to run this trip as a more scenic week. I plan to check out arches natl park, run the white rim trail, TOTW again cause my gf has never been there. Hells revenge was on my maybe, but as others suggested if Im not going to hit the harder obstacles than its kinda meh to run it. Im also on a DCLB limited to what I can tackle, as I dont carry an arsenal of spare parts other than a spare haha. I do have to drive it home so I don't plan to run it crazy, but I do want to give myself a little bit of challenge to keep it a little more fun.

I think I'm leaving Monday night, possibly Tuesday morning from Socal, so my plan was to hit some of the camp destinations to meet some people, maybe coordinate to tag along or get some groups together to run some trails. Pretty much winging the trip but with some plans for backup if I get stuck solo trucking

I know my small group plans on doing a more scenic trip, on moderate trails. We'll be taking the Kokopelli into Moab and should arrive at some point on Monday. We don't have a set schedule for the week, but I'm looking forward to doing White Rim (not the whole thing) + Schafer, Copper Ridge into Arches NP, Dead Horse Point, Top Of The World. I've also downloaded GPS tracks for a number of trails - Dome Plateau, 3-D, Flat Iron, Porcupine, Kane Creek....

We're mostly on 33's, but one of us has a big-boy truck on 35's, and 2 of every spare part you could ever need. So he'll get us through just about anything. At some point I'm guessing he'll go do one of the harder trails without me.

My wife and daughter will be with for part of that week, so we might try and camp in Sand Flats. Women very much appreciate a proper shitter. Otherwise we'll find somewhere on BLM.

Would also like to know this. I know most people are shooting to camp at the dunes since that seems to be where the main hub is. I believe that's where we are going to try to camp too but not a hundred percent.

Myself and @Blender have been discussing starting the Poison Spider/Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim loop on Friday in the early afternoon, camping on the trail and finishing the next day. If anyone is interested in that let us know.

i'm expecting the dunes to have a better chance of having more open sites to accommodate a larger group. Kens Lake is an ideal spot and if someone can grab a spot for the week there, you'll enjoy yourself for sure. Being closer to town and a popular camp site, i did not want to keep our hopes up.

i spoke with the state land trust who manages the camping by the dunes and said we can have porta potties dropped off back there. so i'll be looking to get some dropped off Tuesday or Wednesday if that area has enough camping for a large group.

there are some trails to explore at the dunes location which would make for some fun night wheeling options if anyone is interested. behind the rocks is right there which you can hit different sections of the trail or explore some of the numerous branches in the area...BFE is across the street and flat iron mesa not far down the road. you can run kane creek backwards as well.

steel bender is right next to kens lake as well if anyone wanted a close trail to that location or a night run option.

Technically not legal from when I looked at doing this last year, but the map has either changed or I remembered it differently.

Unfortunately I probably need to return to a primpart base camp each night so I'm kind of hoping to find a space at Sand Flats. My sister flies into Grand junction and then flies out. I have to go get her and drop her off. So I can't camp on trails.

Has anyone heard or experienced any issues with out of state visitors receiving tickets from Utah State Patrol regarding mud flaps or fender flares?

There is a thread on another wheeling site where a lawyer is contemplating suing the state of Utah over plucking of out-of-towners for mud flaps and lack of fender flares.

wouldn't a lot of that land be BLM land which would fall under their typical guidelines
camp 200 ft from water sources
camp at previously used sites (if available)
    pack out trash
    dispose of human waste properly
    limited to 14 days

It does sound like Moab has to restrict their BLM camping a bit more due to the volume of visitors, so maybe it is a different beast...

"The Moab Field Office maintains 38 campgrounds for your enjoyment. These campgrounds offer views of spectacular red rock cliffs amidst a green ribbon of vegetation. Because of the volume of visitors to the Moab area, the BLM has found it necessary to restrict camping to campgrounds or designated sites in our very popular areas. Campgrounds are found along or adjacent to Highways 128, 313 and 279, on the Kane Creek Road, at Ken's Lake, in the Canyon Rims Recreation Area, and in the Sand Flats Recreation Area.

In areas close to Moab, dispersed camping is restricted to designated sites along the Dubinky Well Road, Gemini Bridges Road, the Black Ridge Road, and Pack Creek Roads, the area accessed by the Mill Canyon Road and the Blue Hills Road, and south of Moab in the Blue Hill/Picture Frame Arch area. These sites are marked with a brown post and tent symbol. Pack in, pack out.

View Moab's Georeferenced Camping Map. "
