    I believe the afr should drop, not go lean, at WOT (open loop) even N/A. I would figure this out before your boost plan.

    Your truck shouldn't have narrow band sensors. I need to ask to make sure though. Can anyone clarify that?

    Otherwise, if your truck has WRAF sensors, and your gauge reads them, and they are reading 16-17 AFR, I would seriously consider doing some engine bay checks before going any further.

    Vacuum leaks, loose couplers, weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, poorly operating injectors, spark plugs. Definitely replace the fuel filter and upgrade the pump. Better safe than sorry.

    Get an actual wideband gauge from AEM or other.

    '01-'04 use a single narrowband sensor upstream of the cats and a standard O2 sensor downstream.

    @1HItaco adding a sensor bung just upstream of your cats is not difficult, there are band clamps with bungs if you don't feel like welding it or having it done.

    Thank you @drr . That there is where I would attribute the "lean" reading to. Since those sensors do not read outside of a narrow scope.

    Time to upgrade to a true wideband gauge/sensor, @1HItaco .

    I've never figured out exactly what the difference in sensor range is between the so-called narrow and wide band sensors. With a scangauge my stock narrow band will read from 10.5 to 17 AFR or so, but my Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband isn't a whole lot more. Is it just that the wideband is more accurate at the extremes?

    Helpful link, thanks. This leads me to believe that the AFR reported by my scangauge is only accurate as far as lean vs rich, and is not varying linearly with voltage. Or at least, when the narrowband voltage goes to 0, AFR reading drops to a minimum (10.5ish) and when it hits 1 volt the reading maxes out at 17 or so.

    I thought I read somewhere that Toyota starting using wideband sensors in 1999 and up.

    I myself am uncertain of that fact. Some brief searches should yield those answers those. I'll see what I can find tomorrow, if no one finds any documentation sooner.

    Well, I'm not sure what to believe now. I can't find anything saying that the Denso units ARE wideband sensors, but I also can't find anything saying definitely that they are narrowband either. And the Bosch equivalent, P/N 13613, does say it is a wideband sensor.

    Maybe the Denso sensors (P/N 234-9001/9002) are widebands? Those are for 99-00 Cali spec, and all 01-04.

    Curious since the 7th injector controller interrupts the signal from that sensor, why they don't just integrate an AFR module into it. Or at the very least just have a pin-out for another module to tap into.

    Alright @1HItaco, since we've totally jacked your thread, you gotta see if this will work. For science and stuff.

    thanks everyone for the input.

    I am goint to install a standalone AFR gauge just trying to decide on which one would be the best to get.

    @drr I agree that URD should have somehow tapped into the OEM wideband sensor eliminating the need to install an additional sensor just to have AFR readings.

    I think that one reason may be that the URD timing unit alters the AFR in closed loop but still sends the oem 14.7 signal to the computer so that the computer doesn't trim out the extra fuel thats being added. not sure though.

    any suggestions on best AFR gauge?

    i may have scored a TRD boost gauge (white) so i will be looking for an AFR that matches well.

    will probablly run the dual pod pillar.

    what would the most reliable setup be for AFR gauge and components?

    AEM's newest wideband is the simplest. Has auto dimming and self calibrating.

    Can't go wrong with PLX or AEM, both high quality setups. Make sure the sensor you're getting is a Bosch LSU 4.9, some kits still come with the 4.2. I believe URD carries all the high end kits, you can get a (slight) discount from them with coupon code "forummember".

    Do you have any documentation, or know what the voltage range is on them? Curious how they compare to the Bosch units you get with an AFR sensor kit.
