    I'm with The Dangler.

People eat up JKUs.....they are the very definition of impractical. Slow, thirsty, handles like a bath tub and dangerous in an accident

Slap a truck bed back there and people are going to shit themselves. Wait and see.

I actually had an interest in the Colorado. I really like the exterior of the truck and the engine choices.

However that interest quickly evaporated once I stepped into the vehicle. Interior was abosolutely atrocious. It was like stepping into the 1980s. The infotainment system was nice, much better than the Tacoma. It actually has Android Auto and CarPlay. I also like that it had multiple USB ports. But I can never own a vehicle that doesn’t have push button start. I can’t go back :)

Regarding sales. GM knows that they are likely not going to replace the Tacoma as the number one sales leader in this segment anytime soon (if ever). So I’m sure GM is very happy with the sales number of the twins. Also GM would never want to cannibalize sales of the highly profitable Silverado under any circumstances. It would be disastrous for the company. So a great balance is key.

As long as the twins are moving on dealer lots, I don't think they truly care if they Top the Tacoma in sales. Being a "strong" #2 is the goal at this time. It's sort of the view that Toyota has with the Tundra. They know they will never top the big 3 in sales, but not having some type of offering in this highly profitable segment would be a missed opportunity. The Tundra has healthy sales, hence it's still being made.

It was a risk for GM to re enter the mid size market. But so far it has paid off for them with the GM mid size twins being a strong contributor to overall GM truck sales. Ford took notice and now wants to replicate what GM has done. The hold out seems to be Ram. I wonder if they would ever re enter the mid size market.

If Ram wants a midsize I think the new Jeep pick up will be re-badged ram for Ram trucks or no Ram just the jeep. But as we know it's the same company.

The Ridgeline and all the media hype around it feels like an example of fake news. Seems like they want us to believe that it's a great alternative and that a lot of people are buying them and it's exactly what we need , not trucks but in reality. Not so much.

Doesn't RL have a payload capacity that's 40% higher than Tacomas? :boink:

I can. It is the best vehicle in the class in my opinion. Does everything better than the Tacoma other than off-road and towing on paper. Its issues are the front end looks and the segment it competes in. It's a niche vehicle. Honda knows it can sell 30-40k per year max. They preferentially produce the MDX, Odyssey and Pilot in that Plant. Most people who want something in this segment don't want such a "hybrid" vehicle.

Corolla is the best selling compact in the class. Is it the best small car? No. F-150 sells 7x what Tundra does. It's not 7x the truck IMO.

That's a Sport Trac and if they go that route again, it will get discontinued....again.

The ranger success will depend a lot on what they do with the styling as well. As many complaints I had about my Tacoma, the styling, interior and exterior were fantastic. Best looking midsize on the market by far. But I couldn't get over the performance issues and no matter what Ford engine they drop in the new ranger it is going to demolish the 3.5 in terms of drivability. I'm pissed they have mentioned in the past that they will be leaving the 4x4 manual trans combo to Toyota, so I'll never own one.

The Ranger Raptor they're getting over in Australia looks pretty nice. I'm happy with my gen 3 Taco, but I would have at least considered *that* Ford.

I agree. If I was in the market at the time the ranger raptor was released it would have been one of the mid size trucks test driven.
I won’t be in the pickup truck market for another 5-7 years though.

What's interesting is the Tacoma matches the full-size GMC Sierra in some months, and outsells in other months:

But will the Raptor be priced similar to the TRD Pro. I mean F150 Raptors with leather and all the nice gizmos are easily over 60K. Ranger Raptor will probably be over 50K I would assume.
