It finally happened. I unloaded my turd.

After one year and 10 months of ownership I finally had enough, and more importantly, the numbers worked out.

I just picked up a new 2017 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5l(with Eyesight & all those fun features). This vehicle is in an entirely different league than the Tacoma and I couldn't be happier. :crapstorm:

I bought my Tacoma in January of 2016--after lusting after them since high-school. I was pumped. Then, almost immediately (<300 miles) I started having issues. I'd have to go back and tally up all of the time it spent in the shop, but I can recall at least a dozen visits off the top of my head--most resulting in warranty work and loaners.

It was the most disappointing vehicle I've ever owned (my first Toyota), and the lack of transparency or urgency in Toyota's (non)response to fairly significant issues means it's probably going to be the last Toyota I own.

I'll keep this thread updated as I break in the new Subaru, but it feels 5000lbs lighter. The "shifting" of the CVT transmission is smooth as silk. The brakes are amazing (no buzzing brake pedal). No vibrations. NO F*CKING HOWLING. No rumble stripping to a stop. No squeaking over the slightest bumps. The engine feels smooth with no studdering or misfires. I don't surge out of / into parking spaces.

I'll miss having a truck when I need to haul things, but after some introspection, I determined that the Subaru can handle 99% of my needs for now. I got to trails to do other things. Not to wheel the trails. I'll look into trucks in 5 years when the Ranger, Frontier, and Jeep have mixed things up. For now, I'll get to take advantage of all of the sweet Outback accessories to haul my bikes, kayaks, dog, and camping stuff around.

Thanks to all the Outback owners on these boards that answered my questions and PMs! Now I just need to tell my parents I'm a lesbian and grab some birkenstocks to go with these vegan socks.

PS: I'll be posting some of my accessories in the classifieds section for local pickup. If you are in northern Virginia / DC metro area I'll have a vinyl trifold tonneau, a ShiftSensePro (loved that), and some other bits listed soon.

CVT’s don’t shift as they don’t have any gears.

Congrats on your car and coming out of the closet.
