Anybody ever try smoking with avocado?

I have a few trees in the backyard that can use some trimming. Was thinking about letting some season and trying it out.

You mean avocado wood or like smoking avacados?

If it ain't got a bone then leave it alone!!! We have had to mix a few picnics in to get enough for an event, but we always run butts when possible. On a side note beef chuck roasts are awesome if you can snag them on sale.

Agreed on all. I should of just said "pay attention to the context"

The few picnic roasts I've cooked were not really uniform thickness the way that a butt is. That is kind of expected given that it includes a big of the leg in it. This leads to uneven cooking, in my experience. I'll do a picnic if needed, but prefer the Boston butt 10 times out of 10.

@AugustaTaco, sounds like it is coming along nicely!

Yeah. I thought I left enough context clues.

But, to be clear, has anybody here used wood from and avocado tree that has been cut down to use as their smoke wood?

No. But I just want to say that I am extremely jealous that you have an avocado tree in your yard.

Got a bit impatient and pulled a little early since it seemed like this might just keep going all night, I underestimated how long this was going to take lol. A bit more firm than just "pulled" pork, but still really delicious. Don't mind the foil, I didn't wrap, that's just trying to keep the baking sheet clean

I have not tried cooking with avocado wood, but if i had some i would give it a try.

That whole alder-apple-peach-pecan-hickory-mesquite-apricot rotation gets old, you know?

They used to be everywhere in my city growing up. It was cool going to the park and stocking up on hass before we headed home.

Have not been in that part of town in ages, but I would guess trees would no longer be there due to quarantine regs.

Paying up to $2 each sucks.

It must be nice to live somewhere that can grow that kind of stuff. I'm hardiness zone 9

I think I will give it a try. Gonna let some dry out. I can at least add a chunk in with something I know I like, like pecan or cherry, to get a subtle impact at first.

I would be inclined to go with just avocado on charcoal in something inexpensive and quick like chicken.

If it sucks, you know right away.

I do find apple and hickory go pretty well together, but blending woods is another level.
