I used to have a lot of knee and back pain due to pronating feet/flat arches. I had custom orthotics made that pretty much solved it. In the office I use a standing desk so I'm generally standing 8 - 9 hours a day but I'm stationary and use a cushioned floor mat. For me the real key has been to remember to change position every couple hours. I have a tendency to remain in one spot all day and it was killing my posture. I've had chronic muscle pain/spasms/stiffness for years that would wake me up in the night unable to move it was so bad. Stretching via yoga and moving around more has helped alleviate it.

When I was combat comm I wore a pair of steel toed Danners every day to two years straight - fantastic boots. Put custom wedges in them. Best boots I've ever had, and nothing comes close. Now that I have a desk job, I can't find anything as ruggedly comfortable as those. Gore-Tex Matterhorns came close, but I only wore those in the winter.

I miss my combat boots, but not the reasons why I needed them.

I feel ya bud. I had a job at one point that required the same. First, I would recommend seeing a chiropractor who can line you up. For example, when i first saw him i put a additional 37lbs (at that time i was 230lbs at 6'4) of weight on my right foot when standing. After a few sessions he was able to line me up down to 3lbs. No more lower back and knee pains. This can get pricey btw. Second, Karavel Shoes at my old clinic our Dr.s reccomended them. Good luck

Not quite the same thing, but I've had my Redwing Iron Rangers as my footwear of choice for 90%+ of the past two years. Buuuut... I'm at a desk all day so they're not quite getting beat up like your Danners :p

My Danners met a trash can when the toe started peeking through. I wanted a Viking funeral for them. Switched to Corcoran Maurauders after that. Those are really comfortable too, but I was having them resoled every year at $80 a pop because they weren't Vibram. I'd be wearing them now but jump boots don't look right in dress pants.

I used to work ~8 hours on feet for a year before I moved on to a desk job. I needed steel toe, water resistant & slip resistant. Wolverine w02419 worked well for me. I have high arches, so I put green superfeet insole in all my shoes, and do same to these. I'm on my third pair now, and quite happy. Averaging a pair a year because chemical exposure at my workplace eats up shoes.

Nurse: I wear basic Nikes. There are some specialty shoes that sole co workers wear. Dansko's and the like. They maybe a little more professional but who is to say. I haven't personally tried them

Second on the chiropractor. I have a membership with The Joint, and get a straightening about once a month. It's good for my 'thritis, too - staying in alignment keeps pressure off my knees (when I wear my orthotics, which is always).

Same here, almost daily Iron Rangers. They took over a month to break in, but my most comfortable boot now.
