My neighbor's gardener has a late model Toyota pickup. Next to my bone-stock TRD pro it basically looks like a hot wheels car.

NAH. If it had had the potential, it would have been done. It just couldn't compete.
    Kinda like now.
Sept now the idiots are all on board, so the electric industry is being subsidized by the govt. and the auto manufacturers are subsidizing themselves on the backs of every buyer that doesn't buy the Hybrid.
You really think that hybrid technology only cost 5000$ more than the base model? BS.
And Im just thrilled I subsidized it buy paying almost 40,000$ for a 30,000$ truck.

I agree with your first statements but I'm pretty sure the Raptor was built as a Baja racing, desert running, sand dune conquering machine....not for hitting the backwoods like we do in our Tacomas. Even though I own and wheel my Taco I'd still love to have a raptor just because they're bad ass haha.
    Both have pros and cons.

I wouldn't argue that at all. They definitely are built for that, and it almost seems thats what the pros idea was as well, just failed

Thing is where I live there is no desert dunes to run etc. Its all tight trails. So they just end up being mall crawlers lol.

it was also bought out by the gas giants.

Now many are investing in batteries because they are realizing we are running out of fuel. And we're a hell of a lot more aware of the environment now than we were then.

Haha yeah same here, I'm in SC so it's only tight backwoods trails for us, unless we drive cross country. "Ain't nobody got time for that" haha

It is all about money, why we aren't all driving electric vehicles now. Mind boggling amounts of money has been made...why sell a product that doesn't need to be refueled often. Shit...I drive 25K a year....I am at the gas station twice a week...then all consumables it requires to keep it going.

Petroleum industry is heavily subsidized...hell, look at the cost of war just to protect it and keep it going, not to mention up all the lives lost.

In 10 years it's gone from 2-3 out of 1000 to 2-3 out of 100. Extrapolate that sample another 10-15 years, and you'll get 2-3 out of 10.

While you might not, the people that work in the industry definitely do see that growth rate sustaining.

Nobody said anything about banning ICE in 10 years. That's crazy talk. There were rumors a week or two ago of California banning the sale of new gas-powered cars below a certain pollutant standard, but that is only a rumor and would be decades away...

Yup, greed always trumps "the good for humanity".

Do wonder what the World would be like if Tesla's vision came true. All we Humans seem to do is to fight over resources.

What is "the electric industry" and how is the government subsidizing it?

    Who Killed the Electric Car?

Just about everything to make our way of life possible in the US is subsidized one way or another.

    https://www.thebalance.com/government-subsidies-definition-farm-oil-export-etc-3305788

Dunno... never have been interested in hybrid or electric cars until recently, used to be quite against it. Now with my commute has me looking and running the numbers on what the cheapest to run. Used hybrids you can pick them up cheap, around the $10K mark, even if the battery pack is fried, you can do a replacement at the max about $2500, still a pretty good deal for commuter vehicle.

No tin foil hat here, find the history of why we use one source of energy over another interesting.

you should have gotten the 4 cylinder Tacoma, while being underpowered it can get 23-25mpgs in the stock configuration. also the Tacoma v6 does very well at 20-21mpgs in stock configuration for a 4 wheel drive mid size. if fuel efficiency is a goal then buying a pickup shouldn't be a priority when choosing a vehicle.

What is fake news are the people who push hybrids as clean/efficient technology. Those people clearly ignore the destructive activities necessary to mine lithium and other battery materials. They also don't make sense financially. You have to pay like 8k more to get a Prius or other hybrid that only gets 5 mpg better than a basic compact sedan. Some diesels out there are less money and get better fuel mileage too.
