IIRC the fj case jimmy installed had the twin stick modification performed by RST right??

idk how easy the retro fit stick mod is to complete, might be worth maybe shipping any parts you buy over into the RST work shop for the twin stick?

 

This. Then you can save your ADD tube and all the electronics if you ever want to put it back in.

Also there are two conversations going on here, seems some people have a difficulty separating the thought that an fj case is a completely different mod than doing the fj tube conversion.

Yup. I was totally confused.

When @jowybyo mentioned FJ ____ to me at AAOA, I thought he meant FJ Tube.

And as I am reading and understanding more about the FJ and Stock Tacoma tubes from all you guys, I think I want to go with stock tube, fully engage the front with no welding and just put a dummy plug into the the harness.

 

What I'm wondering is if the easy way (shift into 4wd then unplug) works the same, why not just do that? Or does it light up your dash like a christmas tree.

 

Does anyone know how the 4x4 ECU will react to this?

Then drive it?

 

The 4x4 dash light is triggered by the sensor in the t-case, not the ADD in the front diff. Therefore if one were to swap out the stock actuator for the full-time engaged FJ one there would be no lights on in the instrument cluster. By swapping with the "FJ tube" you eliminate the need for a separate switch to engage the front. Ant has done this, however I have not and still have the stock actuator.

 

Then shift back to 2wd, if I'm following this plan correctly. That way it stays engaged.

I have the tube, but also the FJ case. So, I removed the 4x4 ECU. Wasn't sure how the electronics worked exactly.

 

You need both to really get the advantage of the that swap. Just eliminating the actuator is a lot of work for taking out one electric motor.

 

you also have a twin sticked fj case, making it a little different as well as far as deciding to go full fj tube..
