Ok...so. My rear view mirror keeps falling off. 5 times to be exact.

I drive a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport DCSB 4WD, figured I'd share all of the details because if you work at O'Reillys you need to know it's 4wd to know which windshield it is

The metal button (as pictured below) will not stay stuck to my windshield. I have tried every one of the available "Mirror Reattachment Kits" at the auto parts stores. A few times I've had success of about 6-8 months before it falls off again. The first couple of times it fell off it was in extreme heat or cold so I blamed it on the weather and just waited till it was in the 50-75 degrees or whatever the package says is optimal on those kits. It usually stays on a few months then back off...

I have back issues, so I don't always sit the same in the truck, when I need to sit differently (today for example I needed to sit almost straight up for comfort) I have to adjust the mirror. I had just put the button back on about 3 days ago, let it sit/cure for 2, then installed the mirror yesterday. Drove it this morning and went to adjust it and it immediately fell off.

Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone have a permanent solution?

I considered ordering a new one of these metal buttons...but I can't find one online, anybody know where to find one?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Do yourself a favor and swing into an auto glass shop. I've put hundreds on for free and they have the good stuff.

Edit: probably give you a new metal tab for free as well.

So you don't think I need a new button? Do they just have better glue or something?

Absolutely. We used to carry 50-100 in my mobile truck and a few hundred more at the shop.

They usually do it for free to maybe get you to come back later on for glass breakage or something. I mean, might be a couple dollars but most do it for free as a courtesy.

I just called a glass company here in town, they said come on by it's $10. That's cheaper than some of the kits I've bought that have failed...

thank you for your recommendation, I never even considered it..

Every time I've had one fail (fall off) the installation temperature was outside the range stated on the adhesive tube (high or low either one)....... it's dictated by the temperature of the glass.

If you want it to stay on forever and ever, pick the spot you want it. Lightly sand the glass with sand paper in that spot. Rough up the metal tab with sand paper. Mix up some JB Weld and glue it on. Then put a wooden paint stir stick across the tab and duct tape that to the windshield. The next day, take off the stir stick and put your mirror on. I guarantee it will never fall off again. Just make sure you don't put the tab on upside down, because you're never getting it off.

Glad it worked out OP. I forgot to mention.....last time so was in the glass business was 1991.
I guess inflation has taken it's toll.

On a good note, if it falls off again, they will warranty their work.
