Really, it depends on what type of performance you want and what you use your truck for.

When I regeared, I wanted a slightly lower final ratio with bigger tires than what the factory setup was. My truck was somewhat underpowered from the getgo. I drive my truck every day, and do one or two cross country trips of 4000+ miles every year. I still needed daily drivability. I went with the gears that would run my new tires slightly lower than the factory setup did. If it was mostly a trail rig, I would have gone lower.

This is the calculator I used: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

really only you can determine what gears fit you best.

To get stock with Mt you need 4.30

4.56 is over geared. ~2800 rpm at 70

Seriously, who wastes the time or money building and installing 4.30s in a taco. If you're on 33s leave the diff alone and suck it up. The 4.0, though gutless, can deal with it. With 35s the 4.0 sucks on stock gears but i think we all agree with that.

I agree with everything you said. I wouldn't regear for 33s. 4.30s are not a good option. 4.56 sucks on the highway unfortunately. There are no real good options. I wonder what 4.10 would do

I'm on 4.56's on 33's. I run 2,700 at 70 IIRC. So putting 4.56's on 35's would run a lower RPM than that. Closer to factory.

Most of the trails i go require a lot of highway driving to get to, so 4.56 will put me on the higher rpm running 33s on the freeway, whats the desired RPM on highways driving @ 75mph, 2000-2500rpm? so 4.56 with 33s is good for city driving but no for highway driving, if i change to 35s with the 4.56 will my truck performe better on the highway? is there gear ratio that puts me in between, i mean 50/50 city/highway? thank you guys for all your input:thumbsup:
Ill be making a couple phone calls to get an idea of whats best for my set up.

On a V6 the 4.56 gears on 35s is about the closest to factory RPM ranges.

    4.10 on 33s.

    ugh no.

6 lug trucks.... regardless of 4x4 or prerunner or TRD package. i4's got 4.10's, v6's got 3.73 from the factory. No exceptions.

    OP go for 4.30's

Engine doesn't give a shit. You're not gonna wreck it with either gear setup.
@gainman is making valid points about screaming on the freeway. 12-13mpg hwy is absolutely fucking terrible. This thread is now a dead horse. Ther s tons of good advice, some usual misinformation that has been corrected and OP now needs to decide what's more important. Hwy mpg or off the line giddup
