they have changed a lot to regulate how busy it has gotten. my new mind set is you cant camp anywhere unless their is the little tent icon. I stop and read all the signs. but the old BLM free for all areas i used to go now have campgrounds built.

So realistically the two that are semi close would be the Dunes and Ken's lake, and it seems if someone did decide to go out the the Ledge, they would be camping quite far from where everyone else might be camping, correct? Seems like the only benefit of the ledge are the toilets, but realistically it seems like the dunes gives you quicker access to the local towns. Trying to do all this research based on google maps lol

and i should be able to get some toilets out by the sites by the dunes...the BLM campgrounds will only have pit toilets, so there's not running water.

the ledge is a nice location and can fit a lot of people. it was better when it was free tho...but if we have to bring it toilets, the dunes aren't really free...at least not for us. will be free for you guys & gals still

Like I said earlier in this thread, Moab at the same time last year was basically full. Even on a Wednesday morning we struggled to find a camp spot amoungst the private ground let alone a public one. Moab gets busier every year and Spring and Fall are peak season.

If you're coming in late or don't want to drive dozens of miles looking at full camp sites, the Ledge may be a good place to aim. And even then there are no guarantees.

very true statement. i drove around in circles one night till 1am trying to find a spot. all my secret spots were already taken, and i ended up in a spot i vowed to never camp at. not bad just not to my standards

Hmm, I'll have to dig into this. A few years ago it was not a problem to camp on Golden Spike.

Just called the BLM office. They said you can camp at the top of the trail- it has to be in a place that has been camped before and not off the path. No new fire rings and make sure the human waste is hauled out.

If we have to come out and camp at the dunes one night or two (so we dont need to drive back after many boozes) to have a bigger fire with more people im sure we can.

As konstas been sayin though, if anyone wants a spot held for them we can snake em when we get there and who ever wants to fill it can pay us for the days we hang onto it. Will post updates on availability when we get there

Yeah, I would think so as well, but called the BLM last year and said it was a no go. I believe most signs at the start of the trail will say whether on not camping is allowed, and IIRC the one at the start of PS says no camping.
