And, no, I'm not using a press. Just my Makita hand drill and lots of WD40. Put that sumbitch in my vise and try to keep it steady. A few of my first lowers were a "learning experience" so they weren't as clean as my most recent ones. You can see where I drilled at a slight angle. It doesn't affect the performance of function, but the milled trigger pocket shows some markings, not like smooth CNC'd walls.

Other than prolonging the life of your ammo, that's about it.

Pup likes to hang around the garage when I'm working. Poor guy got an aluminum splinter in his paw while I was building one. I felt really bad. Little fuckers are sharp. I was able to get it out, but now I know to keep him away from the work area. Just a heads up if you have any furry friends.

One of the things we figured out was if you get one of those rubber reducer fittings for your shop vac hose, it fits in the buffer tube hole and you can just mount it there and leave it running while you work. Made the mess considerably smaller or at least more contained.

If you want for blems, you might be able to get a lower for even less. They get sold out pretty fast though so you have to be quick. I think the pink cerakoted ones went on sale for a while. I even though about buying one just for the fuck of it and building a Hello Kitty rifle. I know, blasphemy. :D

Has anyone ran, or had experience with, the Gemtech (or any other brand) suppressed bolt carrier for theh 5.56?

    https://gemtech.com/gemtech-5-56-suppressed-bolt-carrier.html

I recently got my suppressors and thought this might be a nice simple addition. Still need to get barrel rethreaded and new adaptors for the Gemtech One too..

Well maybe I'll give it a test first and see.

Nice, I'll have to look into that as well. Thanks!

I'm going to suggest maybe trying to adjust the gas block before you deal with the BCG. I did just purchase for my SBR a Superlative Arms bleed off adjustable gas block to help control my recoil (300blk through an 8.5in) The SA GB is different than other adjustable gas blocks, instead of just restricting gas, which in turn causes higher temperatures at the GB, barrel, and gas tube, the SA GB bleeds the excess gas that is restricted by the adjustment screw forward away from the shooter. This keeps temps a tiny bit lower and keeps you and others around you happier because you're not getting as much gas in your face from the ejection port and charging handle. Just my 2 cents.

    Here's a good one:
I have about 40 pounds of spent brass in varying calibers (308, 300blk, 556, 223, 45, 9mm, 40sw), all in good condition (few to none are bent or stepped on). Box it's currently in is probably about 16" cubed (best guess). I was originally saving it to trade in to Freedom Munitions and use their brass credit program, but CA problems means I can't get ammo shipped to me (by a dealer). Anyone want to trade for something? Ammo, preferably but I'll take truck parts if it's worth it for both parties. Not in a hurry, and couldn't even tell you what I imagine it's worth. Any reloaders here? Located in SoCAL if meetup works.

AR-15 BS Thread... not AK BS Thread :D
Just kidding, piston AR's are cool to use every once in a while. TBH and maybe I'm wrong, but the piston retrofits and such out there I wouldn't trust as a duty rifle. The AR and AK are very similar but coincidentally different for very good reasons, both great rifles.

Pretty cool. I got the info from here (or the general firearm thread), which other members said they had good experiences with it. You send your used brass and they give you store credit for their house brand reloads. Basically they'll accept any ammo they sell. They sort it themselves for caliber and for unusable cases (bent, corroded, or otherwise garbage), so you just shove it in a flat rate box and send it.

I started saving brass a long time ago, just never got around to sending it in and now I'm stuck with it. I'm not getting into reloading because I don't have the time, space or money for it. This is a good medium between the two.

I've been using the brass credit program for years. Usually send in 2 large flat rate boxes each close to 40 pounds.
