Power steering leak, help me limp it home

Hey guys
I am currently visiting Colorado with my first gen Taco and it has developed a bit of a issue.
After a bumpy road I notice the smell of ATF, I look under and sure as shit the steering rack is leaking, specifically where the intermediate shaft enters the steering rack. It drips a bit normally but when I turn the wheel it really oozes out
I know the proper way to fix this would be to pull the intermediate shaft out and replace the seal, I could also probably just limp it home and refill it often. But what im really wondering is if theres any side of the road fix that will fix or reduce the leaking until I get it home. I was thinking of maybe surrounding the shaft with silicone, but I don't know how effective that would be.

Just how far is the limping home going to be ??

remove the belt !!

The problems would be running the pump or rack low on fluid enough to cause things to run dry .

No pressure in the rack the fluid should not keep pushing out

 

Will it be fine if I pull off the belt and drive it home? I've driven cars that came with no power steering but I've never disabled the power steering in a car that had it.
It's a 1100 mile drive home haha

It would be a royal pain every time you stopped to fuel and eat much harder to turn then any manual steering vehicle you drove.
