Haha. Now that I think back about it, I don't have the black rubber boots installed on the back side of my headlights. They didn't fit with my hi/low hid setup.

I have a small steamer I use on mine. Makes it look factory new and you don't have to worry about a pressure washer or anything else. Just takes a bit longer since it doesn't cover as big of an area as a pressure washer.

This is what I'm trying to get clean. The outside of my truck is now all cleaned up and waxed (fiance decided to surprise me and start waxing it while I was on the phone inside with a junker to get the old Honda). Just wanna get this engine looking good.

I'm embarrassed to even show the inside of my hood, soooo brown and messy! It really needs a thorough cleaning.

Good to hear no one has had any problems... I sprayed the engine in my old Neon once; The check engine light came on almost immediately afterwords, and stayed on for the remaining three years that I owned it. It's probably still on for the new owner. Needless to say, I've been a little hesitant to wash my truck engine.

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
I have washed every engine I have owned. The only problem I ever had is my s-10 developed a short somewhere and wouldn't start for a few minutes after. As long as you have no issues, everything can get wet. Think about driving down the highway in a down pour. It ALL gets wet. I disagree with using anything stronger than a garden hose and even that on a lighter setting. I have always had good luck with warming, not hot, the engine. Soaking the shit out of the engine compartment with simple green. Wet it and then re-wet it as the simple green begins to dry. Then just a low pressure fanned rinse. If you get it clean it is VERY easy to keep clean with that method. just my $2. Oh wait I can't afford that, i meant my $.02.

Simple Green & a pressure washer. But like others have said, take it easy around electronics & don't remove the oil cap to clean inside. hehe...

Got my simple green and CD2.

At the risk of sounding stupid, I'll ask anyway: Engine cover on or off during any part of the process?

    thanks

I had that problem with my first truck I owned, an 88 S-10. The distributor cap was cracked and I didn't know. First big puddle I drove through made me aware of the crack in the cap when my engine shut down and wouldn't crank

pardon my ignorance but is there really a point to washing your engine besides making it look clean? lol

If it is kept clean, easier to spot leaks and problems. If it isn't, may help plug a leak!! LOL

I am on my 3rd truck, 2nd tacoma and I hosed all the engine bays off at least once a month. More when I went wheeling every weekend. Never hurt any of mine.
